Kitchen Company Franchise?

I have recently been given the opportunity to purchase 1/2 a kitchen company franchise in Edmonton or Calgary (my choice) I am wondering if anyone else has had experience in franchises, especially construction orientated?

The company is fairly new (1 year old 50 kitchens, 49 happy customers) but I have toured their shop, met a large portion of their staff, and seen their product from design to completion. Great people, amazing quality, absolutely unbelievable designs etc etc etc.

Also how is the housing industry going in calgary and edmonton? lots of new construction and renovating going on?

Thanks for any input

I'm not much of a business man, but that seems like a terribly small kitchen company to be franchised. Here in Saskatoon the kitchen company I worked for did 2-3 per day when they were good quality, and 4-5 at average quality.

I don't believe that they were anywhere near franchising.

Many ppl build a bussiness to their potential, then when they see it going backwards, they sell the bussiness using the last years" great numbers"
In other words, they get when the getting is good.
Beware of this bro.

re

I am definatley not worried about the company going belly up, I have known the owner for 10 years, stand up guy. He also has a housing company that is doing 7-9 houses a year and has been for 5 years.

Wasted911: Did you work for superior?

This company is comparable to redl if you are familiar with that particular company.

These guys are doing 1 40,000-60,000 dollar kitchen each week. They have done as many as 15 in a single month. Now some of those were only worth about 10-15k but none-the-less they have proven that in one year they can do some serious volume for extremley high end work. I have worked at the other "big 3" shops (Superior, Classic, and Apple) this company (i choose to leave it nameless as it may seem as if im advertising) has a completley different approach, certified designers, a much more advanced 3D rendering program, amazing new equipment, and a heck of a staff.

The franchise will be owned 1/2 by me and 1/2 by the current supervisor so I feel the startup aches will be minimal.

Just got back from Calgary from looking at the business I am purchasing and a place to live. The place is growing at a rapid pace. There is new development everywhere there. The issue for you is more than likely keeping up. There is a brand new monster hospital being built in the SE and it is bare as a baby butt around it for residential and commercial development at this time. Get in now before that area takes off and you are going to be guaranteed a win once it starts to develop.

I did not work for Superior but at one point I was a dealer for Superiors product. The company that I worked for was Superiors direct competition in Saskatoon. I am very familiar with Redl, and have absolute respect for what they aim for. I personally would have no problem backing up them or a shop similar to them.

At the end of the day I would recommend to "go with your gut"
