Hey guys, I'm looking to upgrade my back dashboard on my car. Currently it will fit a pr of 6X9 speakers, but looking for some more mids and highs so I was thinking if I could throw in another pr of 6.5s or something to that effect. Any ideas and also if anyone know any prices as well for getting the work done, Such as fiberglass whichever way it can be done. Thanks.

A small piece of MDF that is cut to the size of the 6x9 opening should give you the space you need to mount a 6.5" coaxial or even a 6.5" component

 

Make a template of the rear deck or package shelf and cut it out of 1/2"-3/4" mdf. Locate where you want your speakers and what type of speakers. Ideally 2 of the holes should coincide with the 6x9 holes already there and you will have to cut 2 new holes for the magnets of the new speakers to fit though the deck. If you want loud, 4 x 6x9's will be louder than any other style of mid/high speakers. Once that's all done, and everything fits properly and tests good for SQ and noise, then you can upholster it in whatever you want...carpet, vinyl, paint...etc.. I like my stuff stealth, so I usually counter sink the speakers and create a cover using speaker cloth to hide everything while allowing sound through. I've done this in a few cars in the past with very good results, as I like loud, clean, concert level sound which is very difficult to get with a pair of components up front and no rear speakers. Just a note; if you are going this route, make sure your subs are either firing inside your veh and sealed to the trunk so that minimal pressure is produced in the trunk, or seal off the rear deck from the trunk by building and enclosure of some sort to enclose the rear deck speakers individually or together...this is much harde to do that sealing the sub to the interior ( which is what i do). Done properly, it gets brutally loud in the mid/high range and with 2 15's, it really sounds like a concert hall. Anyway, I'm not into that level of sound anymore, but it is fun!! Maybe one day I'll do another mega loud music car.

 

I have a set of high end Eclipse 6x9" component speakers left in stock. Sounds like these would fit the bill perfectly for you. I use them most often in the front door of Dodge trucks and Toyota trucks.

To do the entire rear deck, do you guys know of any of the install shops can do it good and whats a good price point for that kind of job? Sounds too big of a job to take on myself, really don't want to screw it up. As for 6x9s, I haven't decided which brand and line i'm going to go with yet but thanks for the offer MR2NR. I am in the middle of a smiliar project with my MAGNUM. I've come down to the Eclipse 6x9 components, the MassiveAudio 6x9 components or possibly the DLS R1073. This to complement the 2x 12W7 JL audio subs and the Morel MT-23 tweeters. Trying to get everything done before my August holiday.
