if you had your mid bass on your floor nexted to your seat
how would this work ?

 

it will work fine... BUT

the driver MUST be in an enclosure to seperate the front sound wave from the wave coming off the back of the cone.
Otherwise you'll have almost no midbass output since they'll just cancel.
The enclosures can be very small though since they won't be playing that deep.
You'll probably have much better performing drivers than in your door... better seal and less things to shake/resonate.

Aiming/placement wont matter much if not crossedover too high on it's upper frequency...

 

I've had 6.5" subs on the front floors aimed up. Worked alright, just took up leg room. Never thought about doing that for midbass though... wouldn't you legs interfere with the sound since it's getting crossed much higher than a sub? I find even crossing midbass around 250 still interferes with imaging.

 

You're right strong midbass in the 250Hz area will still interfere with imaging... however the speakers I'm assuming will still be in front of the listener anyways... similar in placement actually compared to in the door... so I wouldn't worry about imaging too much... unless crossed over real high on the upper limit, like I mentioned before.
Just don't put them in the back seat or something.

But as you say... it will interfere with your legs... or your passenger kicking it around.
Worse yet, emergency situations or taking a corner hard/hard braking could send it bouncing right into your brake/gas pedals.

 

Hrm... that's really worth a try. I gotta find the T/S params on my DLS 8"... hopefully I can do a decent sealed without it being too big. Although... winter is pretty much here so maybe not such a good idea. damn... decisions decisions...

 

Actully midbass can be and has been put in the rear of a car with great success. I'm not going to recomend it, but you can do it and still get good imaging.
