I've been looking around the city. Pretty much everybody thinks they have "so much" experience and that it would be more expensive to go somewhere else and less qualified. Anybody had any bad experiences anywhere? Good experiences?

 

Two of my friends both went to Certified for custom work, neither was satisfied for what they paid.

I had my remote starter done at visions and they ****ed it up bad. I've had to go back 4 times for them to fix stuff.

Aside from my door speakers, I've done all of my own work and am quite happy with it.

Basically it comes down to the installer, and how much they care on the given day. Are you just getting a deck/speakers installed? that's pretty hard to screw up. Or are you looking for a custom, blinged out setup with flashing LED's etc.

 

I know of a top notch installer but he is in the Calgary area......

 

I know if you head out to the Visions in Red Deer that anything you want done will be done correctly. I'd let Shaughn work on my car.

It's a complete install of speakers head unit and bass. Certified wants to do it really bad but they are rediculously expensive. Good work for the most part from what I've heard and I'm sure they do fine. I'm thinking that the company really doesn't matter. Rather I'm just looking for people with experience who are confident and not full of crap.

I may actually use the guys down a south common future shop. They seem really solid. Although I know future shop would normally not be someones first choice...

 

I haven't let anyone touch any of my vehicles in Edmonton. I've seen/heard of crap from most of the installers around. How crazy are you going with your setup? It's pretty easy to learn how to install stuff on your own. Just make sure you take your time and connect everything properly. For the amount you can save on installing yourself, you can usually afford to upgrade what you'll be installing. I've put an aftermarket decks, subs, and remote starters into almost every vehicle I've owned. It's quite simple once you get the hang of it.

 

If you're going with a prefab box and have an older car, it's something that can easily be done yourself with some help.

It's when you start getting into custom fabrication for either the HU or the sub boxes or even speaker pods that a professional installer can really help.

I did all the car audio stuff in my vehicle myself along with a few friends cars. It doesn't look 'omg I wet my pants' good, but it's acceptable. I recently built my own sub boxes with the help of two friends and a wood shop (wood shop made everything so much easier. Access to a table saw, etc. saved so much time) and put a computer / touch screen in my car.

Doing it myself I've gained confidence doing stuff like this, and have saved a stupid amount of money which has allowed me to buy things like a larger amp and dynamat.

 

Absolutely agree here. But for me, mine is a pretty serious high end system. Custom install on the door panels with 3 way fronts and sub box in the back with with 2 large amps and 2000kinetic battery in the back plus all the cross overs. Just too much for me to handle myself. Best to just pay the guys. I'm going for SQ and will be competing in the remaining western Canada shows this year as a rookie. I wanna see how well I can do. I haven't been into it long. Only been desiring it long. :^)
