hyundai head unit problem

Hi All, been a loooooong time since i posted here, but anyway, i took out the stock clarion deck from my '04 accent and replaced it with a Pioneer unit over the weekend. only problem is i have no dash lights now as the dimmer and illumination from the factory harness have no where to go.

anyone have an easy fix for this or have any suggestions?

The Install Doctor - The Do-It-Yourself Car Stereo Installation Resource you can try that site, i dont know if it will help or not... i have not really looked through it yet as i just found the site and bookmarked it but you can give it a go

yeah i took a look there but there was nothing specific to this.

i remember having a problem similar to this on my civic when i did a HU install back in '99 but i dont remember what i did to fix it, i think in the fuse box i just ran a wire from the illumination fuse block to the constant power - i dont know if that would be appropriate in this case though

My ex-wife's Accent had this problem in her '02 -- you need to diode isolate the headunit. I cannot remember how... maybe someone else remembers?

Sorry, no help on this one. Both of them used wiring harnesses in their rides and did not have an issue. They are both in 2001 accents.

I have done several hyundais and they are usually straightforward. Disconnecting the radio should not affect dash lights. Are you sure that you did not blow a dash light fuse by shorting a wire somewhere or yank on another wire?

Scosche sells a hyundai harness. they usually come with a sheet telling you what wire is which.
If you shorted the ilumination wire, that would kill the dash lights. Usually just a fuse.
