Zero noise from my JL12!

Out of know where my 12 inch JL stops working. I have it hooked up with another 2 10" kenwoods onto a 1000watt amp. My 12" doesnt make any noise at all. i tryed switching around the wires, checked and rechecked connects. tryed switching the "working" 10" subs cable to my 12" but still absolutly nothing. totally disembled the 12 and made sure the connections inside the box were ok.

It is a fairly used sub, had it for about 3 years now and been in cars for about 2 of those years, used daily. If it was blowen, what are the signs. Wouldnt it still make some crackly noise or somthing?

suggestions

If the voice coil has an open short then no it would not make any noise. If you have a meter checl to see if the coil is cooked. If not use a 9v battery on the terminals on the sub while disconnected and see if the cone moves.

check the coil with an ohm meter.

If the coil is open, no, it won't ever make any noise.
Sometime the tinsel lead might break, that can usually be repaired. If its inside the coil, not usually worth fixing.

sometimes the short is under the dust cap, and that can often be fixed too... but a shorted coil = recone time....

not sure what model jl audio it is but i would think if its a few years old it would not be worth trying to fix. jl w1 w0 model subs are maybe only worth 40-50 bux each so u might be better just buying a new one
