i'm pretty much a SQ guy. i like accurate/tight bass that gets loud when you want it to. in the last 8 years i've owned alot of 10's and one set of 12's but i decided to give loud and a 15" a try.

so i am planning on building a vented box for this, keeping it at the recommended specs of 3 cu/ft tuned to 30hz. i modeled it in winisd and looks like it plays very smooth down to about 40hz before it starts to roll off.
that would be a nice tune, but if i move up to 33-34hz tune, i get a nice 1.5db increase at 45hz (somewhere around there) but less output at lower frequencies.

being that this will be a daily driver and i listen to alot of different types of music (mostly rap and metal) will i notice that difference between the two frequencies considering i've never owned a 15" sub before?

Err... just out of curiosity, is there a reason why you posted this in the SPL section?

Don't want to move it if there is a specific reason why you wanted it here...

oops, sorry.
yeah it was intended for the enclosure design section. i was reading threads in both sections, didnt realize i posted it in here. feel free to move it.

but to explain, a 15 in my case, has nothing to do with SQ. i'm trying my hand at spl for a change of pace. hence the questions about box tuning and whatnot

I don't think you'd hear much difference. However, I'd suggest you stick with 30Hz.

Although if you want loud, I'm not sure this sub was the right choice. Mine in a 2.5cf, 25Hz tuning gets pretty loud...but not extremely so. My sealed IDMAX easily has more output.

Anyhow, it's a nice sub...and IMO unbeatable for value. Let us know how it works out.

well, i'm not looking to tear heads off just yet. still, i'm trying to do this with a budget state of mind, and for $75, if it doesnt get as loud at least as my current 10's then i will sell and move to somehting else.

i would love an idmax, too bad i cant afford one right now (house hunting)

I had one in a 2.4cf sealed box and it did good. Nice mix of low end bass and punchy midbass, sounded very nice in my friends 92 celica coupe off of 750+ watts RMS.

If you're an SQ guy, I'd stick to the lower tuning so you get a little bit less group delay in the midbass area, should keep things sounding cleaner.

I think you're going to be pleasantly surprised with the sub.

BTW, good luck with the house hunting.
