My friend wants to go with a new setup in his 2003 f150 reg cab. Haven't had much experience with trucks so I was looking for some help on this one. Is it possible to go ported? Thinking maybe a single ported twelve or something. Not impartial to going sealed either. Wants a fairly musical setup, with the potential to get loud as well. Budget for the sub(s) is about 400, amp to be decided on (under 1000 rms probably).

 

Its easier to maximize on box space with shallow mount subs. And they don't require much to start with so I'd look into that a bit if you could.

In these trucks, there s a space where the middle seat folds up and the floor/rear of the truck, a 10" sub of almost any size will fit there and you can make up for airspace by building the box out to each side

the Elemental Designs SQ10 is only 3" deep, and will run in 0.3 cubic feet of airspace sealed.. compare that to other skinny subs that need almost a full cubic foot, and the fact that for at least equal sound quality, and performance, the SQ10 is about $70 US from http://www.elementaldesigns.com (shop online in the US) it's almost impossible to beat... plus if you work in an elemental designs amp, you get a 15% discount for the package... nobody beats that, anywhere!

in fact, just worked it out on their package builder, and for $352.75 US, you can get 2 SQ10's, and a NINe.2X amplifier which will give them 600 RMS to play with @ 4 ohms bridged...

 

I had a Chevy reg cab and I fit a single Alpine Type R 10 (old style) in a truckrider box behind the seat. I ported it with a 3" port 12" long. I was running 500 rms to it and it pounded hard. It hit especially hard when the windows were down, I don't know why that is though. Moral of the story, don't be afraid of porting the box in a reg cab truck.

 

that would be a good idea. but is there a max depth of the sub box? what is the mounting specs of the sub and do they compair to a shallow sub. imo the jbl gto series 12's would be a good choice. herd them today in a ported box, about 1 cuf. WOW. everyone in bestbuy got quiet cuz the thought the roof was gonna fall down, then after the song ended it got loud in the store again...

 

I think I would like to stay ported if possible. What is the best way to port in a reg cab truck? sub forward/port to the side? I think a single 10 or 12 if there is space would be sweet. My buddy isn't that tall, he had 2 jl 10w3v2's sealed in there before, probably can squeeze a bit more depth outta the box (probably about 8 inch deep sub(s)).
