Future Shop install bay - Bring the Vaseline

Make sure you plan your installs in advance and locate everything you need so you don't get caught like I did!!

My buddy bought a used DD headunit, GPS, Bluetooth, IPod etc. off Kijij.
He asked me on Friday to install all of it on Saturday for him as he is heading south next weekend. So obviously I needed a dash kit. His truck was a 2003 F350 which technically does not hold a DD.
So I was going to use a Metra 5818. None of the local shop had one so I called FS Friday and was told he had one in American (not Metra) and it was $30. Wow, it's $13++ online and 20-25 at most car audio stores. My buddy said he would pay it just to get it done. He got their Saturday and they said it was $39.95 ! He told them I was quoted $30 over the phone, they said Nope! He paid it to get it done.

I see this as punishing the customer for not letting them install it. They think they won but little do they know I have spent over 10K there in the last 10 years on from every department in the store.
I will do my best to plan out future purchases on all electronics that do not include FS.

as an employee of a future shop mobile audio department I must say that although what they did sounds wrong, it doesnt mean you should boycott the entire company. some of those kits sell for $30 and some sell for $40 maybe the guy on the phone made a mistake when he gave you a price. thats why it is a price quote. quote is like estimate. it is not a guarenteed price. he could have put you on hold for 10 mins and checked but instead gave you an estimate. In the mobile department we dont charge any different for those kits weather you get it installed their or not. The price is still the price. We dont punish anyone for not using our install service.

you also need to consider the fact that future shop hires most of its staff at this time of year and the guy you spoke with on the phone could have been in his first couple days on the job. errors do happen and as I said before, $10 is no reason to boycott an entire company.

I've had many problems with the Future Shop Mobile section, And I'll never get them to do anything for me EVER again.

The FS here will keep your parts that were not used, The guy even lied to me right in the face about it. I told him you didn't put all the unused parts back in the bag and I need them. He said "No we put everything back in the box".

I also told him to use the parts that came with the box like the plugs and what not, And he said ok. But after taking off the door panel I find out he used his FS parts like the butt-connectors and the parts I had for the speakers were not even used???

Which means that **** stole the parts that came with the speakers. I paid a lot for the speakers and the totally ****ed me over.

He also told me that under powering my speakers will blow them within hours, Which is obvious bullshit.

Should have come to my bay and told me he could not find a kit anywhere else. I woulda nailed him for a hundy

j/k but that could potentially happen at a less regulated shop than FS.

And I have never seen a 5818 for $20, but you're probably right. FS obviously stays in business by selling stuff for twice what everyone else does... That's what indy dealers complain about all the time - how they have to jack their prices up just to be competitive....

He says stuff like that all the time to try and sell more stuff.

He also said my speakers wouldn't even fit in the door. He never really wanted to install them until I bought an amp.

I am sorry to hear about these bad experiences. I guess you always have to watch who you deal with, some guys at my work are totally just there to make sales and help out their own pocket books. But there are some of us who actually enjoy car audio as a hobby and help our customers to get exactly what they need in order to get the sound they want in their cars.

And he said he's never heard of Morel speakers, Which told me the guy only knows whats inside there store and that's it.
