Help a noob replace a stock system

Hi,

So far I've only got a sub(SWR-1022D). I'm just gonna run 1 sub as I'm new to car audio. I'm planning on getting the KDC-x794 by Kenwood, but really I just need iphone/ipod control. CD/MP3/BT are useless for me. But I like the display on this model. Not a fan of the old 7-seg displays :/.

So I need front and rear speakers, a suggestion for a cheaper HU?, an amp.

I was gonna run 1 4ch-amp with 2 channels for the fronts and then running the rears off the HU. Then bridge the other two for the sub. I know I won't be able to put my type-r to its full potential without spending quite a lot, so I'm fine with "underpowering" it for now I guess.

What would you recommend for a noob? Should I go with 2 seperate amps? I'm trying to keep my budget low($600) for a HU, amp and speakers. I don't mind grabbing well used items too . TIA.

Thats a pretty tight budget... Have you looked through our classifieds? There are many good deals to be had and right about now I'm sure many of the owners of these products would cut some decent deals just to have a lil extra $$$ on hand being a few days before xmas and all.

My best suggestion is go Xmas shopping in our classified section. glm

I'm just not sure about the 4-ch setup I mentioned. Is this typical? Can I bridge just two channels and leave the other 2 running independently at 4ohm each? Is there any ipod only HU which don't use 7-segment displays?

Yes, you can use your 4ch as you have described and not sure about which HU's.

Are entry level JLs good for fronts and rears? Specifically, the GT5-652.

Ok, I'm thinking of getting the M500 to power my sub and a 2ch kicker amp for the fronts. I also want to grab these sets of pioneers for the front and rear. I'm thinking of getting them all here:

Visions Electronics Boxing Day Page 09 - Boxing Day Flyers and Boxing Week Deals at RedFlagDeals.com!

It'll set me at $350+tax+shipping. Is that kicker amp and speakers any good?
