2x12's or 1x18
2x12's or 1x18
wanting to upgrade from my 2x 10 inch kicker comps. considering either of these two setups.
2x fi ssd 12 inch sealed.
or
1x fi q 18 sealed.
id have all the bells n' whistles (improved cooling, high qts n' so on) added to both setups and i have a good friend who builds really good boxes so the enclosure would be custom made.
ive got a hifonics brutus brz1700.1
with the ssd's id probably run at 1 ohm getting 1700 watts split between em.
with the q18 id run it at 2 ohm getting around 1200 watts.
i listen to everything. i really value accurate detailed bass (reason why i wanna go sealed) that still hits hard.
so i guess my question is. which should i go for? chances are the 12's are gonna be a bit more accurate and detailed then the 18 but will the 18 be almost as good in that regard but hit much much lower simply do to the surface area of such a large woofer?
which would you guys go for? or do you have any other suggestions. im all ears.
thank you!

The 18" will get lower and should have nearly the same detail/responsiveness as the 12". It'll handle more space, and I'd go with a sealed 18" over sealed 12's.
Read up on LMS and XBL^2 motors.
You can't go wrong with SSD's sealed but for a little more money I would get two Eclipse SW8210's (12" non-LMS) or SW8000 (10" LMS) in 3.5 cubes NET. In 1.75 cubes, the SW8000 is QTC .707/flat FC 28 Hz, the SW8210 is QTC .5 / FC 28 Hz. One is the old model, harder to find, the other is new. Both are about $150. Power handling 1500W RMS total, will take 2500W total if it's clean (says in manual). The SSD's don't model as good in small sealed boxes, not even the 18", maybe with high QTS but the site doesn't have specs for that. Better efficiency - the SSD 18" is around 88 dB efficient, two SW8210's are a little higher. Much lower efficiency on the SW8000 but it's flat in 1.75 cubes, doesn't roll off until 28 Hz, very impressive for a sealed 10". It's more of a rumble-sub than an oomph-sounding sub.
