Okay, so originally i had my 6 1/2" component speakers hooked direct to my amp with no crossovers, i know not the smartest choice but i could only find one crossover. Found the other one this morning, put them in went for a drive and my speakers stopped playing, turned off the radio drove home connections on crossovers fine. Next i checked the in-line fuses between the amp and speakers, blown. what would cause this? im running a second gen RF punch 45, the original not the new remake, as well as ARC audio kar series 265's in my rear doors (only ones hooked to amp). Speakers were working fine prior to the crossovers. Inline fuses are 3A.

 

You have both the comps and the 265s hooked up to the amp? If so, that's 2 ohms and the P45 will put out enough power to pop the 3a fuses.

 

I think he's saying he installed the crossovers because he had just locaed the 2nd one. So now both are going to an xover rather than direct to the amp.

 

Yes jordy, this is correct. I only have the 265's hooked to the amp. Before they were direct now they are through the x-overs and the inlines popped


what should i do? throw in a higher rated fuse or will i have a chance of damaging something?
also it played at first but when i tried to turn up the volume it stopped working.

 

Double check your wiring, particularly around metal areas, and make sure your speaker contacts and crossover contacts aren't shorting. Replace the 3 amp fuses, and re try without the crossovers...if it works, then try again with the crossovers...if they blow again, then you know where to look for the problem (crossovers may be shorting internally (rare that both would be...but possible if there was a manufacturing defect)).

 

systems been in for over a month so i know its not the wiring, tried without the crossovers and its back to normal but the speakers dont produce enough lows and are trying to pick up the highs.... any solution?

 

Get new crossovers or try another set...can find some on ebay or local shops. You can try active crossovers using an electronic crossover or a deck with built in crossovers, but you'll need another amp (not a big one..2x15 watts is enough) for the tweeters. Your easiest solution is to get another set of crossovers, but you may not get the sound you want as they are made specifically for the speakers in the set and tuned based on the speaker's response.

 

im using stock tweeters off aftermarket deck. it deosnt really make sense why they would play at first then pop the fuses once i turned them up :S would it hurt to throw in a 5A fuse and see what happens?
