How does this design look?

I was thinking of building this box to sell . It fits squarely into my Aleros cabin-trunk opening, so I thought I'd use those dimensions, which is 24 x 16.5. It's for a 12" sub, and it's the optimal space/tune for daily and the mounting cut-out size for a SSD, Q, BL, BTL, Icon, Xcon etc.

1" MDF / 2" baffle / counter-sunk 1"
12.5" diameter sub minimum 2" away from outer edges
45's in 4 corners, keeps port area width at 45 degrees
Port 2.75 x 14.5 x 40.875 (15.64-16.01" of port per cube with mentioned sub displacements)
2.67 cubes grosse (yes it is)
2.49-2.55 cubes NET with mentioned sub displacements
2.5 NET (XCON) = 30.5 Hz ranging to within .1 Hz with different subs.

What's it worth carpeted?

What will it cost in materials?

What screws do I use?

Is it Home Depot or Home Hardware that cuts wood?

Should I pre-drill (which?)?

What glue do I use? i used Lepage, some people swear by goriila glue......which iS

Is it Home Depot or Home Hardware that cuts wood? I got my wood from Home Depot and got it cut there, however there machine needed calibration and luckily everything was off by the same amount. O and the jackass cut one of my pieces 2 and a half inches too short

lol dry wall screws? cmon.

 

yeh man, i used coarse drywall screws and it worked like charm. I just used a really small bit to predrill and those suckas grabbed like leaches.......2 inch long leaches

The guy who designed my box told me to use drywall screws and I read somewhere that also recommended drywall screws.

It worked for me

 

Maybe one of the more experienced builders can chime in on his box design.

 

I've found one place (out of like 10) that actually have 1" MDF, and it's $62.08 for a 4' x 8' sheet. Now I have to plan it all out how the sheet is going to get cut, and I'm so going to fack this up!

 

1" MDF is a waste of time and money.

Use decking screws, not drywall.

Use carpenters glue.

Ultimately, you will not make any money selling this box.

 

^^ once again...I have to agree with DUKK...good luck with your project though.

 

i agree with dukk here also with one exception.
i like to use spax screws on mdf or any type of wood for that matter. they bite and will never let go. are self lubricated, and can be driven into hardwood without pre drilling (not suggested for mdf). they can be had at any Lee valley cheep.
also always predrill to the shaft size of screw being used, and deeper than the screw is long. especially with mdf as it will split for sure without.
