I had my stereo equipment stolen a day or so ago, nothing exorbinant, but a good quality deck, 6 channel amp, and 15 inch sub. The crossovers were mounted on a board under the seat, so with them gone, the door components are useless as well.

Now the equipment is about 2-3 years old at most, and most of it I bought either on this site, or on KIJIJi, so.....without receipts. Retail I'm sure was about $2500 or so.

How does the insurance company treat all this? How do I go about trying to substantiate it. I didn't take pics of the sub, but christ all the wiring to the rear seat's been cut including to the sub. How couldn't a stereo shop or adjuster not know?

 

did you tell the insurance company of the equipment you had when you installed it?if not chances are they are going to give you the blue book value of the oem system since you have no proof of the value of your system

 

I had my car audio stolen in the early 90's and at that time they sent most customers to a place in Scarborough. the people without proof that they owned a system got either 20 or 30 percent of the value. I had photos of my system mounted to my car (they wouldn't cover things not mounted like cd's etc) and I got back 100 percent (actually better equipment) of my system covered and installed.
not sure if things have chanced, but likely they haven't... hopefully your insurance company is better...

No I didn't call the insurance company and tell them. I installed the system myself and no I don't have pics. But...why would someone steal a stock system. All the heavy guage wiring is still sticking up under the seat.

If anything, any of my next door neighbours, including one who's a policeman, could verify they were in the truck, he put up with me while I was doing the install and testing. All the neighbours could hear me rolling in.

 

All you can do is try...unfortunately receipts and photos are what the insurance company want. Wires installed can't tell an adjuster if you had Pyramid or Audison installed, and loud does not mean expensive. Hell most expensive sq systems are pretty quiet in comparison but typically have some seriously expensive equipment in them.

 

Thanks. I only have the manuals for the the deck, the box for the components, nothing for the amp.

What a pain...hopefully not though. We shall see. I will do a followup for anyone in the same situation.

 

In BC they have an allowance that they give for equipment when there is no receipt. $125 for a deck, $50 for speakers, etc. Not much. Plus the deductible for stereo is $350 so often it's a wash.
