Is it worth the trouble for oversize speakers?

Hi, I'm looking at buying the MB Quart PCE 216 6.5" component speakers. The problem is that my 1997 Toyota Corolla has stock 4" front speakers, meaning I would have to do some custom work to the doors which is a concern because of lack of equipment (though I'm sure I can borrow some) and time. My question is should I just go with the MB Quart QSC 210 4" components and save myself the trouble? I can get both for around the same price.

I am not looking for competition sound, its for my own personal listening. I like to turn up the volume at times though.

Two more questions:
If I were to get the 6.5", how much would it cost to have a shop do the custom installation? (just an estimate)
The power handling of the QSC 210s is 40-100 Watt RMS, when looking for a compatible amp should I look for one that deals 100Watt X 2 or should I be looking at the smaller number ie. a 50 Watt X 2 amp will suffice?

Definitely go to the much larger speakers and get a proper install done on them. Add some power, a minimum of 50w x 2 to bring them to life, more if it is in your budget. Any particular reason that you are looking at the MB Quarts? Nice speakers yes but in some applications they are just too overwhelming on the top end. Are you open to options?

Make the mods! You'll be happy with the results. Not sure how your car is but I had to mod my doors to fit Alpine Type R 6.5" components...including using a hole saw through the doors to mount the tweeters. All I needed was a dremel and a hole saw and some industrial plastic glue (to mount the mounting brackets to the doors) The sound is great....while your in the doors make sure you sound deaden them too.

My guess would be $50hr for the doors. Probably 5-6 hours of work.

I'm open to suggestions so long as I can get the speakers for 250$ or less shipped because the MB Quarts would cost about that. I listen to mostly trance and house music but also listen to hip hop and rock from time to time. I've heard many good things about the Quarts.

The dremel and the hole saw were all you needed to do the custom installation? 5-6 hours seems like quite a long job I figured more tools and materials would be needed. And if it takes a professional 5-6 hours to do it then it would probably take me a lot longer. Anyone know any step by step tutorials on custom speaker installation?

I took my time, actually few days. I had never taken interior panels off before. I measured about 10 times for the tweeter hole. You only get one cut.

Crutchfield may have some tutorials??
