Fan relay help needed

I've google searched for a day and came up with mixed results so I'm looking here for any help. I want to connect 2 computer fans to cool my amp. From what I understand I should use a relay for the remote turn on so I don't blow my headunit but from what I've read it shows to connect relay to power wire also and to use same size wire but I run 4 ga so how can that be. I've also seen to run each remote wire after the relay to a fuse then to whatever you need to switch on, but do you really need another fuse involved for the amp. Any help or shortcuts out there?

you can run the risk of taking the input off your hu out because the load of the relay and the load of turninig on a amp may be more than what your hhu can support. so all you need to do is have the hu trigg the relay that will trigg your amp to turn on as well as your fans.
and yes you should use a distrobution block to connect the equipment. so your main power in and it goes to the amp or amps that your running. and also goes to the relay everything should be protected

Thanks for the info. I was also considering installing a capacitor. If I did, could I do without a distribution block and just run the relay power to the caps positive terminal

Do this first..

get a relay, 4 pin, or 5 pin, but 4 pin will do, 30/40 amp relay is most common.

mount relay inbehind deck so it's out of the way,, make sure it fits in though.
and locate constant power, or ignition power, your choice.

or, mount relay in the back near amps and use power from back there, fuse it cause it'll be constant power back there.

Connect pin 30 to fused power

connect pin 85 to your blue remote wire on deck

connect pin 86 to good ground.

Pin 87 is + power when the relay is on, run wire to amp(s) and fans and it'll turn them on no problem and won't bust your relay fuse in your deck!

GoTo the technical forum, look at the Sticky thread called "Relay Wiring".

If it were me, i'd wire the fans off the remote circuit rather than ignician, that way the noisy fans won't be running when you have the deck off.

Thanks again and sorry I missed the sticky. I understand now what to wire but the only thing it doesn't explain are the grounds. It shows to ground the relay but do I need to also ground each fan and if so can they all go to the same point or each need a seperate ground point. I already have my amp and capacitor grounded at seperate points if I need to add 3 more I starting to have 1 to many holes in my car.

Yes,,, you still have to ground the fans.

Tom.F.1. - by having the realy come on with the deck, they will turn off with the deck as well.
