taking apart a 99' Cavalier dash

I've taken apart my 2000 Cavalier dash before to put in a deck. How different is it to take apart a 99' dash, and what tools are needed?

I'm pretty sure you have to, to take out the factory deck. The front part of the dash is most likely screwd in at the top like my 2000 Cavalier. I don't think it's possible to install a deck in the car without taking the whole assembly apart.

If its anything like my 97 z24 was, then Yes, the whole top cover of the dash has to come off to get the deck panel out. Including the 2 screws inside the glove box that hold the airbag to the dash top cover.
It's pretty easy to do. I upgraded about 4 times, had one stolen & replaced.
So i could take it apart, change decks and have it back together in a couple hours.

There are airbags in the 99' Cavalier. Do I have to unplug them somehow?

Also a 2000 has air-bags to how did you go around this when you did the HU install. As your asking about on the 99

They most likely won't go off, but to be on the safe side pull out the 10 or 15 amp airbag fuse from the inside car fuse panel, the sticker on the back of the cover shows which one it is. Then wait 10-15 min or start taking out the screws and bolts for the dash and by the time you get to the last one the time should almost of passed. When you take the dash off and get to the airbag on the top up towards the windshield you will see the yellow wire going to the plug, mines blue, my friends was grey. It's just a clip plug carefully unplug it and don't forget to plug it back in before putting everything back together.

best bet,is to just Disconnect the Neg battery terminal

so no boom will happen

I don't **** with those fuses unless I have to,I've seen some pretty ****ed up things happen.

Plus you won't have to worry about having to unlock the radio as your replacing it after its re-conected.
