Angry Cold Weather messing up deck(HU)

It was -11 yesterday and my deck didn't fire right away! So I removed the face let the car warm up for 10 and bam it fired.

Today on the other hand I wasn't so lucky - it took almost 30 minutes for it to go.

FYI - It's not a power, ground, ign, issue cause the amps fire and the deck illuminates itself - I just don't get the screen and functionality of the HU

I remember a thread earlier this year on Eclipse HU an weird behavior in the cold.

I had weird behavior (could not eject CD (and it wouldn't track well) in a car parked in the sun on a 110 F day).

I guess the Eclipse HU really DO have clearance issues (tight tolerances) where the metal/ plastic expands and contracts in an uneven fashion causing stuff to bind (or maybe frozen moisture in your case). Too bad for a deck that sounds so good too to have this annoying problem. We should probably point this out to Eclipse (if they did not know this already)

Ive only had pioneer decks before, but everyone always worked promptly... didnt matter how cold it was outside and i live in manitoba (very cold sometimes). The only problem i had in the colder months was that the lcd screen was slower responce.... given the -25 and below circumstances, its all good. I had a sony once and it was ... gave it to one of my friends for free lol. never again

I've owned Alpines, Kenwoods, Pioneer and Panasonic decks and this is the very first deck to do this.

I have to agree on the slow response when very cold.

Lately the Eclipse Cd7100 has been fine - mind you its been -3 to -7 outside in my area. So who knows!

I'll contact Eclipse on Monday and see what they say!

Cheers

I will also bring this up when I talk to them next week at CES, I will probably be talking to the wrong people (the correct folks are 1) customer service and 2)those in the engineering design portion of the company)

Pioneer 6800UB 2 years now -32 winter , summer +45 c inside car weather starts , normally nothing happens.

Maybe you left you deck in the cold everyday, and the moisture whent into the electronics and when the energy (current) goes into the electronics and all wet well there u have a conclusion.

If u do have a detach face , why not take it out and carrie it with u ? after all that is the brain of the car deck .
