Can my little amp be too much? Is it possible?

I have an Alpine 9813 and I just installed an amp (jbl 4200), just for my one 10inch. It only puts out 100 watts, but makes the lights on my deck blink with the bass...how can this be? 100 watts cannot possibly be too much power for my car...really weird?

Anyone have any idea why this may be?

My Suggestion would be to wire the head unit power (Fused) and ground leads using about 12 gauge wire directly to the batter.. Then look into doing the "Big 3"

My Stereo would go fuzzy when listening to FM radio when the bass hit.. it was due to a lack of power,, lights dimmed a bit aswell.. Just the power wire directly to the battery fixed it..

Yeah it shouldn't be dimming. I've noticed this on several people's cars... Once they rewired some stuff. Made sure all connections were correct, and tight. It usually stopped.

V-drives are power hungry decks.

What about the small cap on the power lead trick?

yeah i run a 9835, first time i tried one i hated it cause it sounded like a$$ total poo. but i put one back in and ran a 10ga + from the battery and a 10ga - to the chassis and the thing sounds awesome. just running the deck power into the avi xldirects in 3way mode and it sounds pretty impressive. UPGRADE NOW

A little off topic, but still relevant

Does a deck get the majority of it's power from the constant power lead (Yellow) or the accessory lead (Red)?

My understanding is that the accessory wire is just turns the deck on.

Okay, I will upgrade the negative wire and see what happens. The v drive decks require that you wire the positive right to the battery. I did that at first, then when I connected my amp I used 4 gauge wire, so I decided that I would splice into the 4 gauge and put the power for the deck into the 4 gauge wire...is this a bad idea? Should I have put it right to the battery? I have a cap, but for a 100 watt amp...does it really make sense to connect it?

Thanks for all the help.

phiber > yes all the power for the deck comes from the battery wire, thats why its usually always a thicker gauge, the acc is just to turn the little kipper on.

alon > hmm splicing into the 4ga, ghetto but should work fine. upgrade the ground wire for sure or atleast ground it directly to the chassis. if your still having trouble try running a 12 or 10ga wire from the battery straight to the deck. make sure to fuse it.
