I put the line drivers on hold because it took more and more of my life (for what was a hobby) I've been playing around with some home audio, and different parts of car audio. one example below.. very modified Crossfire Tek35.4

simpler is better?

 

in this case, and probably most... simpler is ALOT better. the donor amp had crossovers and crap using not so good components.. the new amp is just an amp, there's no gain control (it was designed to run off MY deck) tehre's no crossovers, there's no anything.. very simple and the sound is amazing, especially for the price. takes a little convincing (of myself) to run th emain circuit board through a band saw though [img]graemlins/cry.gif[/img]

the output devices are LM3886 (made popular by 47 Labs http://www.dagogo.com/47LabGaincardS.html
who uses the same devices in some expensive stuff)..
the amp doesn't get very hot at all, and power output is 55-60x4 @ 4 ohm.. it's not 2 ohm stable and not bridgeable (because that's not what I need from this amp) lower impedance and higher power, bridgeable and many other things can be done..
as for warranty.. 5 years on what I built, 30 days on what crossfire built

 

Could we make a blanket statment about amplifiers with built in crossovers?

Although I believe that built in crossovers really make installations alot easier (i.e. one less component to install), they do contribute to signal degradation. On the other hand the same could be said regarding the addition of any external processor.

I've always liked my PPI Arts because they didn't have a built-in crossover...
