Hi Guys,

Has anyone here ever done a conversion of torsion bars to gas shocks for the trunk lid in a 3rd Gen Cavalier?

If so what shocks did you use and how did you mount them?

I have done a similar thing on my hood. worked out very well.princess auto has quite a few different sizes and .lbs ratings, if ou can't find the one you need there, try NAPA, they are a little expensive compared to PA though.

I haven't tried it on my trunk (yet) but I plan to... hope that helps out a little... The only bit of advice I can add, is when measuring your mounting points make sure they are close enough together so that you get enough lift out of the shock, but no too close so that when you compress them by closing the trunk, they don't compress all the way and leave the lid open a few inches..

The easiest way to accomplish this would be to fully compress the shock and measure how long it is. The ones I used for my hood were 11" fully compressed, so I made sure my mounting brackets were at least 12" appart so the hood could close fully...
