Ok, total newb here but ready for some learning.

I just bought an amp and a used 12" crankenstein in a ported box (looks home made)

I'm only after a little extra low end oomph, but I want clean oomph not burpy like the bandpass boxes I've heard.

Anyways, I think (?) that I should install a cap. How do I do that? Does anyone have a used one?

thx,
w.

dood, if you're gonna get a cap (listen to the setup first, then see if you really need it) then go to XS cargo and get one there, 80 bucks for one with a digital volt meter on it.great price

how do you know if you need a cap?

will it help the bass be more crisp? or is that an enclosure design function?

mostly a function of a good enclosure, but if it seems weak, and the punches aren't there, a cap can help with that.

Should I perhaps go with a non vented enclosure?

Anyone know about dr. crankenstein subs? Ported or not? (guess a model number would help here )

if U get a cap, the instructions are included with it. Secure it into place before you connect anything to it, then connect the ground, then connect the power lead to it, some ppl use a resistor, but I havn't found that that is really necessary.

Make sure that your amp is un-regulated, or loosely regulated power supply, inorder to benefit from a Cap.
In my experience, Dr. Crank need massive ported enclosures.

Any system can benifit from extra capitance.... but in most cases putting caps in dosen't do much if anything...

I'd put the money into a better sub or amp...
