I'm piecing together all the stuff I need so:

If I wanted to use 10 guage speaker wire to my sub, do I need to get a really long piece? or can I just get a piece long enough to go from the amp to the box to the sub?

Thanks

As with all wire... you want the shortest possible piece.

I am a voodophile I think wire can alter the sound of a system. If this is true then it must also be true that wire can only degrade the signal not improve it. So wire should be kept, from my altered point of view, as short as possible. In a car I generally keep enough extra wire in the system so if I do my biannual rebuild I will not have to rewire for a while.

Is a voodophile a person that believes hogwash and absurd theories?

10 ga is cheap enough buy extra and cut off what you don't need once you have run the wire.

</font>
I will assume that you are just making a joke here XiphOid, but it is in rather poor taste. This topic has been beaten to death -- leave it be -- if you can't hear these differences then pocket the cash and consider yourself lucky.

As for those of us who (admittedly, think we) can -- we will continue to relish the enjoyment that better-reproduced music brings, and curse that our search for sonic nirvana may never end. In truth there is a subtle element of masochism in this search -- if you just choose to forget about the potential for small improvements via things like cable (as I now have, for the moment, in my two car systems) life does get easier... PS: is there not an element of irony in the fact that both of you gave the same answer to the original question?

^I just acknowledge that I hear things that are contrary to some folks opinions. I feel the physics and electrical theory of the arguments is inconclusive, so my listening experience is what leads me to my conclusions. The empirical evidence does not support my opinions, though it does not conclusively debunk them either (we are talking theory here look it up, theories cant be proven true or false).

X- I completely agree. One should never buy a product due to marketing hyperbole, too many obsurd theories to justify a claim that my hunk of copper is better than yours. My advice: live in the first person

But yeah Dukk could have a valid point (it had to happen sooner or later) , when reality and opinion collide what happens… these are opinions and we should be open minded enough to accept reality with open arms, as long as it is reality.

It is still a good idea to keep the wires as short as practical .

Is there another side, that argues longer is better?

K...I'm overdue for an "altered state". Who's got the key?
Reality is different for every one of us...that's why we're here....to learn again, and to grow.....at least that's what I know for a fact....no matter what you believe.

(Insert funny joke here.)
