Tips
I had the wire for the truck release disconnected and the actual key cylinder on the outside of the trunk was taken out and filled in. I bolted the sub box down so it could not be moved from the back seat making the only way into my trunk, the keyless entry (and I had two just in case).
Best thing to do to prevent a thief is to not let them know you have a stereo in the first place. Do not play your music in your neighborhood (mad neighbors are prime suspects .. LOL) Any visual deterrent is better then nothing. If a thief second guesses himself .. he may think twice about it. Park your car in a well-lit area. Motion detection lights are the best. Thief’s like the cover of night. Park as close to the house as possible. Thief’s do not like the fact that someone can sneak up on them. they are the ones trying to do the sneaking. Make your stereo heavy and awkward to carry .. I put weights in his sub box just to piss off anyone trying to steal it. I also put no edge on the box so you can't pick it up especially with the extra weight! Take out the factory screws and miss-match the screw types around your subs and bolt it to the car. That way if they want it .. they have to piss around with a few types of screws to get your subs out .... piss around with bolt that holds the box down and then steal it... trust me, they don’t usually want to be around that long. I put a personal alarm in the trunk. You know the ones that you use when you go walking at night? When the pin is pulled it squeals away and it's loud! This is mostly a paranoid thing .. so if they have a way around your car alarm .. they will never see it coming but they will surely hear it and hopefully so will you with enough time to chase them away with a shotgun in your hand Anyways, this is my two cents. Take it for what it's worth. |

You can also get a type of car (old man car's) that typically no one thinks there is a stereo in. Like chevy capri classics, mercury grand marquis, buick roadmasters, ford crown vics, ....
Basically, the exact opposite of a tuner car. And don't put those huge ridiculous stickers on your windshield, advertising you have something worth some cash in your ride. |
don't post on sites like these with a list of what you own, or what its worth....
|
I love it!!! The weights and personal alarms!!
I would way rather have to do a claim or recone on a couple subs and know that the guy wasted his time and doesn't have my gear! I used to have a few piezo sirens in my old car all over the place - that way if they did want to break in it would be mighty uncomfortable for them. I say put a couple nice big handles on the sides of the box - "forget" to take off the razor blades under them - that you put there for triming wire during the install ... then bolt the box to the frame! That should hurt - you'll need a good detailing in the am though!! |
connect a secondary alarm to the amplifier remote turn-on(a few switches will work too), and a signal generator.
trigger a burp if someone gets into your ride....lol |
old man cars one idea
this guys pretty much has it right you can also put a camera on your driveway and actually catch them. that might work too |
maybe this is off topic, but can you legally beat the out of some one with a bat that is breaking into your car ? or blow a hole in them with a deer slug ?
just curious , not that it would stop me . just curious . |

well instead of cutting him up y not just have a fire extiguisher in the trunk..... wired to the alarm and when the alarm is going off and the looser openes the trunk he gets a face full of fire extiguisher !
|
opps and i almost forgot..... we must add some type of lighting ! lol

Another good tip is to take off the bloody face plate to the deck, ya its common sense but its over looked a lot. All ways see people levin em in the car.

yah, well if they cant see your system and all they see is a deck with no face maybe there going to just walk away
|
all big talk...until you look a man in the face after you've just ended his life, you don't know what you're talking about!!! A stereo is hardly worth killing someone over, there are much more important things to kill for. Anyway, sorry about that, brought back some memories I had suppressed. Listen, I keep saying this over and over...go to the junk yard or local stereo shop or ebay and buy a cheap oem deck, gut it and make a fake face plate. When you leave the car put it in place...it has worked for me for 23 years..and I 've always had sports cars with rims and big stereos.
|
veeman could you send me pics of how it works and everything. Sounds very interesting man
|
sure man...I just gotta get a chance to take a few pics...very simple and very effective. Just get an oem deck...really doesn't have to be even the same as your original, but if you can get one, that's the best option. Then you just remove the face plate by unscrewing it ,prying it off etc... and then use crazy glue to put all the buttons etc...back on the face. Depending on your decks layout, you can use an old cd to glue to the back of the face or use velcro to attach the face to your deck when you leave the car. Remember, most crooks are looking for an easy grab, so when they are scanning, it's a quick peek inside the car. If they see what looks to be an oem...they just move on...especially when it's dark outside, it's nearly impossible to tell it's a fake. Ofcourse, you can't have all your speakers hanging out and your subs in plain sight either....and don't forget to slow the volume as you're getting closer to your destination.

If you want to put a deterrent in, I like the Atomic 3000 strobe light by Martin (www.martin.dk). 3000 W of constant on blinding lightor strobing light. I've used these when DJing and you can easily blind a whole high school gym, let alone a guy opening your trunk at 2 am. :cheeky4:

any kind of junk to hide the bottom component works well as no one expects anything there and it's rather natural looking to have some junk laying around.
|
ok ok it works....... but i love the fack its a erly 90's ford cd player but it definatly works !
|
yeah, I had it kicking around from my 94 stang...it was dead anyway so I didn't feel bad gutting it. The thing with stock stuff is they all look very similar in that they're boring and very colourless...so unless you're really paying attention, it looks stock. The best example I can give is when my brother got in the car and tried to put a cd in the slot. He looks at me all puzzled and says,"the radio just broke!", to which I respond,"it's a dummy face." He is still puzzled, so I remove it, and he's says,"I hope you have a warranty" I laughed and put the real face on, and he's like what the hell...that's cool! I figured if it can fool someone up close in the day, should be good for a thief in the night.

damn hilarious guyz..
i like the razorblades under the handles idea... lol have them cut off there own fingers on your handles and u know exactly who dun it.. lol |
I prefer to tig weld my deck to the chassis, then to the car.
And just in case they bring a plasma cutter or the like, I just leave a spirng loaded switch blade right behind the deck, usually resulting in loss of an eye. |
Yea, but all you people think that cuz you have a deck, you have sub and amp, the ratio of decks with amp and subs, to just decks without all the goodies like more like 70 % with nothing good in there car but a deck..
So If you have a means of not displaying your good, (taking out your faceplate, or the dummy face, Genius) and putting your seat back up, could save you alot of time and effort for theft proofing your car. |
what would you suggest for a deck without a removable faceplate
|
if u can get your hands on small female hex bolts, male hex bolts, or torx screws thats good. also when u make sub boxes and such....get creative and add a trim panel to go over the front as to completely cover the drivers mounting holes. and bolt that sucker down from the inside if possible.
if your rich shave your door handles, tint your windows. an alarm is always a good idea, one with door handle sensors and shock sensors is the best choice. |
or just lock your doors and keep ur gear out of site, and dont let ppl know wat kind of gear u have
some kids just take things out of car cuz theyr unlocked |

well i just found 2 guys in my truck thought there was just one they got my speakers on the doors and my deck thankfully thats all. if there was just one well he would have been smashed. the cop said that if i did get ahold of one of them i can do what i have to do to protect my property and if they had weapons well protect my self to the most i have too. basterds cut my steering wheel and busted up my colum. the big joke was on them though. the deck and speakers were useless as soon as they were riped out. i had secondary wires conected to the voice coil wiring so that they would break if ripped out. and the deck i changed the ground wire to red and had it so that the wires would be pulled out of the deck harness so they would not know which one was the ground. the speaker outputs on the deck were useless aswell which i did on purpose so it could be used with only amps.

^^^ Nice man good ideas
