TOC error???
#1
hey all,
I have a Kenwood deck(KDC-X969) and most any CD I put in it a TOC error will pop up and it won't play the CD. It does it with brand new CDS, burnt cds, anything. some cds it works fine, then the next cd it won't. sometimes it'll play a cd, then the next time I put that same cd in, it won't play it.
What is this error? and how can I fix it?

Oh lucky you.
My old 969 did that too... FIVE times over two years. Well, four times. The fifth time all sorts of things went wrong and I bitched loud enough that they replaced the whole unit with a 979.
I now have the 979, and it's in for service right now too, albeit not for the TOC error thing.
A TOC error is "Table Of Contents". The 969 brain can't read the TOC, so it errors. Basically, the mechanism is to dirty, or is kaput altogether.
Take it in to your local shop for service.
And, FYI, I got a thread going on my own Kenwood problems right now... http://www.canadiancaraudio.com/ubb/...c;f=3;t=011459

Wow. And some people wondered why I would go outof my way to NOT recomened a Kenwood...
I have had two kenwood Cd players that both worked great for the first 1yr...then poof they just wouldn't like playing cd's.
Sometimes random errors, other times it would skip like crazy when parked - even with brand new cds.

i can say as a kenwood dealer
that they as a company have and did take care of all warranty issues for me and my customers
they have warranied for my customers units that were well past the warranty period
something i will say many other companys do
not
if you don't get satifactory results contact the people i listed in the other thread
i will add that as in reliability i put them in several trucking company's truck that do all day long hauls
they work they seldom break
and the car dealers and the trucking companys insist that i use kenwood as they usually have 0 issues with them

my other deck, going back into my car, I had in there for 4 years, kenwood 915. Never ever did I have a problem with it, scratch cds, bumpy gravel roads. I probaly have a couple thousand hours on it.
I have a friend that works at city furnature in Prince George, and another friend that works at Vision in PG. I'll talk to them about it. just the other day I put my 969 in my new truck, and I'd like to keep it there.
