Amplifier Actual Birth Certificates / Test Sheet
#1
This ought to be fun and informative. Post your amp's actual birth certificate and/or test sheet here. If you don't have a pic, just jot down the info straight off the sheet. Pls refrain from the "I remember it was . . ." posts.
Here's my Phoenix Gold Xenon 600.1:

I also have an Audison LRx4.300. There was no birth certificate, nor test sheet in the box. Anyone know if I'm supposed to get one? Let me know so I can ask the dealer if I'm supposed to get one.

the thing i never understood about birthsheets.
if a company is going to blatently lie/inflate their power specs publically..how hard it is to make a fake birthsheet and have someone sign it for each amp?
not suggesting any of the brands above are doing this but it wouldnt be hard to do.

Well, the specs and features of a product that companies release/advertise - whether they be fudged or not - are all part of the marketing of that product. Birth certificates and test sheets are every bit a part of that marketing. I'm sure that fudged or not, the certificates/sheets both instill confidence in the name brand/product, and a sense of ownership of that particular item in a lot of consumers, especially if the company is reputable - exactly as the company intended. The only difference being is that this data is internal and is not mass-marketed (obviously one can't mass-market a specific test for one specific item at a specific time under specific test conditions as being applicable to the entire product line).
Also, I see no difference between this data and the data in the owner's manual other than this data is specific to the particular item, and much more flashy. For example, the owner's manual for my Audison LRx 4.300 states: "Output power (RMS) @ 13.8 VDC; THD 1% blah, blah, blah." On the back cover it states: "Power measures taken according to audison standard, 1998 edition." Too bad the 1998 edition isn't included so I can see what the standard is and make an informed decision. This, too, is advertising, but I don't believe too many folks complain about an owner's manual.
Since many of you folks in this forum are informed people, I suggest you accept the info as what it is: a marketing ploy. I suggest you just kick back and chill, and let some of us have our fun.
For those folks who are not informed, that's why there are forums like this one: to help people decide for themselves. If people won't spend the time to do a little research . . . caveat emptor, n'est-ce pas?
After all, would anyone buy a product without knowing what the product's specs/technical features are, even though we all know those specs/features would not put the manufacturer in a non-competitive light? Would Ford have sold any Pintos if they first warned buyers that the Pinto had that little problem with the gas tank?

Take for instance brand X who has been in business for many years making quality amps that are known to be underrated in their power. One year they decide to cut corners in their designs to make a couple extra dollars but continue to print out underrated birthsheets. It would take a very long time for the word to get out that these amps dont put out rated power judging by the very small percentile of consumer that actually bench test their equipment and the few magazines out there who do the same.
Just something to think about.
With that said im not accusing any companies of doing this but its certainly a possibility. Allbeit a small one; I'd still prefer to buy an amp with a birthsheet than without.
