96 Saturn Stealth Install

96 Saturn Stealth Install
Here is the install I did last week on my daily driver a 96 Saturn SL1.
I tried to keep the install prety stock looking to prevent prying eyes from getting to curious.
I kept the stock AM/FM/CD player and added a GM-AUX10 auxiliary input adapter to connect my PDA to play MP3's.
I bought an AudioControl LC6i level converter and line driver from Ebay to interface the stock radio to the aftermarket Amplifiers.
The LC6i converts the speaker level inputs to RCA outputs and allows level matching to the amps, It also provides 3 pair of RCA outputs so it is possible to have only a 2 channel input and get 6 channel output.
The LC6i also provides a remote out line to turn on the amplifiers.
The level converter is mounted under the pasenger seat and is connected to the amps using Monster Cable thin interconnects that I got from Princess Auto on Sale for $14!
The two amps are mouted on a shelf in the trunk and consist of an Alpine V12 4 channel amp driving 2 Infinity 2way 6.5" speakers mounted on the rear deck and 2 Infinity 2 way component speakers mounted in the front doors.
The other Amp is a RF bd501 monoblock driving a 10" infinity sub mounted in a .75 cubic foot sealed enclosure mounted in the spare tire well.
Power is provided to the amps form the battery to the trunk via a 4ga welding cable (cheaper than the cable sold by car audio shops a Freebie from work)
after the install all of the components were adjusted using a test CD and a scope and all of the amplifier gains were adjusted so there is no clipping up to 85% volume!!
All of the work was done by myself in two days!
The only thing I have to do is color match the tweeters to the door trim to make them less noticable.
The system turned out really well and it is completely noise free, I m pretty happy with the sound quality but The bass is still not up to my satisfaction.
Update Future Shop has the 12" infinity subs on 50% off sale this weekend so I bought one.
I will be rebuilding the sub enclosure and testing the new sub tomorow weather permiting!
Let me know what you guys think..
