Well it was a nice place and I'm sure it could have continued on had they not run it into the ground and basicaly let it go to waste. Truly is a sad day though to see the oldest shop in town close up. I heard a rumour that she basicaly opens when she feels like it so there may be some stock left on sale....

I think Ron and Lawry from insta-car sound started there too, I may be wrong. I think the derushi bro may have had there start there too.
In the 80's the big hitters were a place on bank st called Mckeens.(bank and 5th) they closed in arround 1986.They didnt do installs so they relied on a guy named Denis Basin...Yes that Denis that runs Alpine Canada.Denis was an amazing installer! Mike Browly fromalpine canada (hes the top man there) was from Mckeens(i think)
The late 80's belonged to Langlois for the hi-end electronics. They sold brands like G.S redline, kenwood ($1800. tape deck anyone) and were the first players to push orion. Peters car radio did all the dealer work, and there was tons. as well sold the Rockford back in 88.
Instacar sold technics and kenwood with 2 shops. they closed in 96 on cleopatra, and became radio rons on canotec.
In the early 90s a shop opend called eastwick. It was owned by honkong investors.Eastwick and derand battled for years slashing prices and beating up on each other. the manager from eastwick (gord brown) is now sales manager at alpine canada.eastwick and it horrble owner (Pac) was responsible for the 310k cert. program.Pac was a licenced mechanic and pushed for the govt. to shut down all car audio shops that didnt have a licenced mechanic. It was a horrable time!
Then came the big box stores, multiteck (adventure) and futureshop.Futureshop subcontracted a very good looking,talented,installer....Hee. and I opened dashworks, ran It for 5 years behind F/S and 5 years away from them. A great guy named Cris guieda opened final lap arround the same time, and our two crews enjoyed the best years of audio together.Ever car show was flooded with the two shops cars and drunk employees working as one crew. Unfortunately Cris Died from a brain tumer and marty ran the shop for abit.Pearl started up arround the same time (manny and anthony). everyone knows about the Pearl and Autotrends fewd... and that takes us to today.
so now its your turn kids to go make some history.
Oh yeah..jordys a loser...yeeesss!
Damn.. nice history lesson. Can you elaborate on the Pearl/Autotrends feud?

And thanks for the kind words.. I'm glad I keep refering people to you

Whoops. In the post I forgot to mention Car treck. maybe charlie can give some details.
The Autotrends-Pearl thing is funny. Rob use to work at pearl as an Installer. He had done some work for this rich dude named phil. Rob wasnt happy at work for whatever reason, and phil apparently had some problem with manny.
Phil and rob decided to open a shop and like usual when an installer leaves a place, his customers follow. There was some hard feeling, and rob being the commic he is took every chance to try and drive manny nuts. He would order pizzas to pearl (paid for),the bashing, and even bought the domain name www.pearl.ca when there (pearl) contract expired. I believe its changed now.Can you imagine how pissed manny was when he found out www.pearl.ca was forwared to autotredz website..ouch.
i heard rob may be getting out of 12v.

He carries RF, Alpine, Eclipse and I know he is going to start selling JL stuff eventually. Their installer is great and shamus is a nice guy to deal with.

That's just a shame to see Joe's go. They were around when I was that kid in that Mobile Dynamics ad, workin' on my big wheel.

I ran Car Trek from '90 to '97.
Mmmm. Brought Phoenix Gold and JL to town thanks to "Big Dave" Snetzinger, the "Dracula" Sidekick.
Those were fun years! Anyone know if he's still in the business....last I heard he was out West?

Not so fun was being a member of the "we hate Eastwick" club. It used to be 3 or 4 times a day, we'd get people wanting their starters fixed, and we'd just say "we can fix the install in 4 hours, or rip it out and start over in 3".
And then the 310K fight....not that it's kept any hackers out of the business, but it's a good idea to have some kind of certification.

I closed up in '97, partly due to the Big R , but moreso due to the Big D. (and I don't mean Big Dave).

I worked at eastwick for 3 years and it was the most fckd up place Ive ever seen. The shop could hold maybe 6 cars and it was a shithole. In autostart season we would do up to 30 cars a day. HUGE volume! I was the only installer not on piece work. One guy would do 8 to 10 cars a day. he wouldnt do hood pins, no solder, no fuze holders (they came seperate in the box), sometimes no parking lights. He would get paid $30/car. do the math. The owner didnt care how bad the jobs were done, He wanted them done FAST. I saw there most fckd things done to cars there. So much damage! I did all the bigger and expensive jobs so I stayed far away from the mayhem.
In the winter, part of the bay was under 6 to 10 inches of water. You were up to middle of your calf in water doing an autostart...and there was extension cords running thru the lake your standing in. we all got 120v shocks EVERY Day.
One time the only toilet in the building broke. The owner (GROSEST PERSON IVE EVER MET) took a dump. The toilet didnt flush...the next day he took another dump..toilet still hasnt flushed. he took dumps all week and filled that toilet until it was almost full. Ill never forget Pac.
He paid under the table sometimes. if he owed you $1200, he would only try and pay you $800. I had to grab him by the collar and freak to get all my pay one time.
He didnt show up with our pay one friday so all the installers went on a"work to rule" campane on saturday. With the bay packed, we all left and went to the beach until our pay showed up. We were all drunk by the time it did.
I was pisssed at my boss so we stold the company truck and went to Woodstock in 94...for 3 days..what a concert..i think
the place was wild
