The alt. doesn't directly make a difference since most scores at least in DB drag street is done engine off. It will charge your battery better thus improving your score. As with your compenents off yes the more current saved to be ready for the sub the better unless you try the new SQ/Db side then every thing must run at the same time. Another Edmonton guy here, Its been a long time since I have been on here. I honestly didn't think there was still a spl scene in town anymore. At lest not a serious one.
As far as brands go 90% of the gear is sorced out to large manufactures. So a good portion of it is the same. SPL depends more on the box and car then your woofer and amp. And if you really want to make it anywhere you need to be willing to burn money.
