Ooops...

Hey
Yeah you're right about that. For some reason I thought the 350ZX went as far back as 1996... so yeah it would be the 300 then. Anyhoo, I've changed my mind significantly as far as what I have to work with for the stereo (the money situation is getting a little tight). I'm gonna stick with my current head unit which is a decent Kenwood eXcelon unit (KDCX589, see pic) rear deck speakers (some mid-range aka shitty Kenwood 5 1/4"s). I still want the other parts to be primo so should I go with Focal components up front or MB Quarts? Still wanna know what amps are best for sound quality and I've switched to 12" JL W6's for the subs.

Any more suggestions welcome - any ideas how much this would cost? any deals?

Cheers,
Bursky

I would go with the Focal components over the Quart for better midbass response. I would consider the Eclipse aluminum cone series for subs as they do not take up a huge amount of airspace for a box. The 300Z does not have a huge amount of room in that car. It will take a oversize 6.5" set of speakers all the way around, component up front and coax in the rear. An amp that is 50w rms x 4 will be able to keep up with a set of good 12's in the rear. If budget constraints are hitting you, look at the Concept line of amplifiers, or if you have a little more cash lying around, the Zapco or Eclipse amps are nice as well. I would rather see a customer downgrade into a respectable amp like the Concept and upgrade into better components or subs before going with the monster amp of all amps.

Yes, the whole DLS is very noteworthy.

more info @ www.dls.se . If purchased in Canada from an authorized dealer, they come with lifetime over-the-counter warranty from manufacturer defects. It is worth the drive to kamloops!!!

QUestion is too general

How can you say one is better than the other when they don't all make the same stuff? FOr example, I think JL is the best for amplifier sound but Eclipse is the bets deck. So I can't vote for either one because JL doesn't make a deck (nor does Focal who has the best sounding speakers out of the bunch IMO).

True...

Point well taken. Guess I should have made it more specific, like "what's your favorite car audio company," I think that's more what I meant anyways.

As for my soon-to-be system, I was wondering if I need a capacitor for it, since I want a system that I can leave on all day at the beach without draining my battery. Obviously I need seperate batteries to power it too, right? but do I still need a capacitor if I have seperate batteries to power the amp? Also, should the batteries (which I assume will be in the trunk) power the whole system (ie headunit as well) or just the amp?

Thanks a lot

I agree with Justin, if you are coming here and asking us questions after visiting your retailer....well something must be up with your retailer. You have lots of optoins to choose from, for us specialty retailers this means that we have lots of these options to choose from. Before we all continue to recommend this that and the other thing, you need to be clear on exactly what it is you want to do. Anyone can offer you deals, myself, other vendors or the crack addict down the street. The "deal" though is no good if the "deal" is not the right peice of equipment for the application. Find out the application and then choose the right equipment for it. If there is a deal to fit that application, great, you just saved some money.
