But doesn't that go hand-in-hand?

Big names will bring in more people with a larger promotional base, would it not? It's like one depends on the other but unfortunately, the scene has to show worthy first for a large retailer/manufacturer to jump on.

I'm just surprised there hasn't been a few "Entrepreneur Types" willing to tap into this. If you think about it, they could brand the hell out of the event, promo the hell out of their products and if they're lucky, show up in the competiton.

I agree, 20 people isn't enough, but if Future Shop or MTX holds a car audio competition, I think 20+ people would come out of the woodwork.
At least I think.

manufacturers used it as a promotion back in the day. now car electronics dont require any large scale promo. everyone and their grandmother knows what car audio is, what the main brands are, and where to buy them and for how much.

So yah, the manufacturers just sorta Fu'kd off, i can even tell you when it began to happen, around 2003-2004 is when the support pretty much died.

Oh this has happened, many times. The owners/admins of this very forum and myself have had actually put on an event back in 2007 where you had show cars, performance cars, low riders and much more as far as the car show part of it went. Hamilton guys are known for doing these sorts of shows a few times thru out the summer. Number of others from this forum have also done the same. They can all agree that getting cars for the show is not hard, it is always the car audio competition participation that lacks big time.

car audio people just dont show up. It either costs too much, or they dont wanna get spanked after paying to enter the comp.

Future Shop used to host these types of shows, they dropped them.

There used to be shows with 45-80 car audio competitors alone right here in Toronto. It's truelly sad most of you younger guys missed it.

Growing up as a kid, I actually remember an audio component at Speedorama. I use to love it, because I'd be able to see the extreme audio vehicles I'd dream about (bolted windows, no seats, bass trucks) and to see and hear them compete.

Seriously, it was probably YOU GUYS all this time and various competitors that YOU and other members of this site know. It's funny, because who knows but events like that may have peaked my interest and got me involved to where I am today. I would definitely credit that.

(Hall A of the Convention Centre was the car show, the further back section and deeper into the convention centre would be the audio component, if anyone remembers!)

And I paid to go to that crappy car show, year after year just to see that one small sub section. Which is why I'm saying again, it's too bad too much doesn't still exist to this day.

It's too bad that the major car shows - period - don't have an interest today in the audio part ... they have customization, drifting, imports, american muscle ...

I really don't know WHY someone or some manufacturer can't or doesn't want to link with one of these car shows once again.

And that's something we gotta change ... maybe we're going about it all wrong, maybe everyone should just get together, show off their cars, share the knowledge, compare notes ... let spectators take a look ...

Or maybe it's the bass race component, since almost anyone can compete in that (depending on the set level) ...

Maybe something new has to be created and offered ...

But realistically right now, it's like you've got the superstar players in the same field as the amateurs and that's a serious problem.
Everyone wants to play, it's just that not everyone wants to play at that level.

Yep, that used to be called Audio Thunder, over 70 SPL competitors at that event year after year. I participated in it myself back in 2003 and 2004. What a blast that was. Super competative, it was amazng.

Many things have been tried. Your turn to try something. People just dont want to place less than 1st place.

Man, if only I had a digital camera back then ... I gotta see if I have ANY pictures ... I don't think I do.

But you see what I'm trying to say though? It's like look at recreational hockey ... you have classes by age, skill sets and so on ...
Muscle cars (and drag), classes by engine and auto bodies ...

So why is that when it comes to car audio competitons, it's like okay ... build yourself into one these categories and that's all we've got to offer you.
Realistically I know what you're saying. This and that have been tried already. I'm just saying, that's just a signifcant problem with what we have before. I don't even know how it can be changed, if it could. It's just the problem we face before us.

And you're right ... it's my turn.
So when a win a few million on the Lotto 6/49, I'll be sure to have a few shows in my backyard ... everybody can come to North York / Scarborough, no problem!

If you want some pics here you go 2003 Audio Thunder (click it)

this was my set up back then, not very competative so i got my *** handed to me at this event, placed like 6th or something. terrible.

This pic is a classic tho (not, its not me but someone else from this forum)

2004 Audio Thunder Pics (click it)

This was my set up a year later. Much, much more competative this time. I finally began to "bring it" lol.

This is Team Northern SPL from Woodbridge, On

i'll tell you again, people dont want to place less than 1st - 3rd place. Take the Db Drag for example. You have 2 Street Stock (amateur) classes and 3 Street (no walls, no 16volts, just more power than amateur class) classes.

Even with all these classes people still dont show up. You will get 3 people in each class and your top 3 spots are filled. Then you get few more guys from other five classes and there are your 20 SPL competitors. I say this b/c that's exactly what happens at every event. Seems like 20 competitors is the threshold for the last 2 years at every single show.
