Old Timers
Here are some real old installs that I did... (The first decade)
*Sorry for the poor quality of the pics, as they're transfer by the digital camera from the original photos and not a scanner.
Here's my own car in 82 with the Rockford Fosgate Power-6 (the first RF amp)and a custom signal processor switcher for the Bass turbocharger from CV. my subbox ultilize an passive rad... tuned to 32 hz.

Turbo Dodge Colt (ARROW Car Audio's customer)with 90% Nakamichi in 84-85s... competed with the US guys from Hollywood Sound Lab only second to them. other then that show... only sees 1st place locally.

Just found this the other day...... The CFOX Show Result in 86. like I mentioned above , the Turbo Colt won second. There were 93 cars in the open class.

87 Mustang.. This is around 88-89 (built at: Sound Plus Mobile) Nak Amps & tape deck, Soundstream 12" Subs, AudioControl processors. has won many 1st including the Cfox one with $1000 prize money!

87 Buick GN (This was built at: Ace Car Audio) Won 1st (1000+ class) at 1990 Sound challenge held in Plaza of Nation and also had won many others.....

My own car in 92..... All USD Audio speakers & Alpine 7909/3545s, AP-Subbox. Never competed...

There are also a VW GTI, Turbo Supra..(all serious systems) that have won many first place trophies..... I'll dig those pics out later.

Sweetnlowsc........ those are great systems. Your car was pretty damn good. In fact, it was always more than good enough. Just not for you. Anyway, while we are back in the 80's and early 90's, do you guys remember a store on 4th Avenue in Vancouver that sold raw speakers? Not Speaker City or RP Electronics. I bought my Audax and Peerless drivers from them. Their name escapes me, but it had the word Speaker in it.
Anyway...........
YES!!!
I Knew it!
I thought I was losing it. I mentioned it to somebody who worked at the present day Speaker City and they looked at me as if I was smokin' some good stuff.
Now, those guys (the original Speaker City) had some amazing stuff. It was like a candy store.
SweetnLow91SC, you must be like that American Bandstand dude. 100 years old or something, but only looks 30. Not to mention good hearing and memory. You must live and breathe home/car audio.

I LOVE old skool install pics. Especially ultra-clean ones like the pics you posted Joe. Really nice work on the wiring. Looks like you were using terminal strips long before they started becoming more popular. That RF amp is cool. I bet it cost a MINT back then eh? Most stereo stuff did, especially amps. The install in your SC is what I remember seeing at the 97 Motorsport show at the PNE.
I remember the SC. Black with Linear Power amps from what I remember. That grey fleckstone paint was pretty cool back in the day as well. LOL...
I remember running into an East indian guy (I think) that had bought that car in the late 90's. He was still running all of the same gear as well.
Ohh...memories...

Although I didn't compete much on my own, I did attend a number of shows in the mid-to-late nineties with a customers' vehicle from Ralph's Radio. It was an '88-'91 silver Honda Civic that went to World Finals in Dallas:

Now I've read that description about that car and I have a few questions. Very nice install BTW. Really clean. I like the kick panels. So, did it actually win Finals? Or place in top 3? The description says this:
A 1991 Honda Civic competition car built by Ralph’s Radio. This car has been to numerous World Finals all over the world and scored the highest points in this region every year it competed. Having scored perfect as scored perfect for sound quality can get, this car was an amazing accomplishment.
World Finals have never been held outside of the USA. Unless you took it to Europe for their IASCA finals. Scored highest points in the region overall in all of the classes or in it's own class? Tim might be able to chime in on that since he's been zone champion more than once. And, what is considered 'perfect' scoring in SQ? It scored top points across the entire board? If so that would be quite an accomplishment but I never recall ever hearing about this car in any publication besides Ralph's own website. Sounds like some embellishment there IMO.

The description was written by someone who didn't have anything to do with the car so, yes, there seems to be some midleading information.
The car didn't place at Finals the one time it went to Dallas as a result of some penalty points. There was a line of cars waiting to get into the building for pre-judging & unfortunately the car's owner wasn't around when they called him & he was assessed some penalty points of his score. If I remember correctly, he placed 6th but if the penalty hadn't occured he would've been either 2nd or 3rd.
As far as the other "claims" go, I do recall the car did achieve highest overall points in the region for one year over all classes. The "perfect SQ" I think refers to the fact that it had scored a perfect score of 40 on the RTA a number of times.
Hope that clears things up as far as the "claims" go.
