Oldtimer need advice

Hello All,

Just joined this forum, and I need some advice.
I've been out of the car audio scene since 95.
Back then I was running PPI amps and processors, MB Quart components and pioneer HU and Pioneer subs in 4th order bandpass I built myself.

Now I notice that the old names (PPI, soundstream, etc.) are not as popular.

I'm planning to build a system in my '10 Camaro and I would really appreciate some advice on what to buy for amps, speaker and subs. I'm not replacing my HU.

TIA

what are your goals for the system?

budget?

personally i'd say look into,

JBL MS-8 processor
Audison LRx 5.1K amplifier
Hertz ML28 tweeters
Hertz ML165 woofers
Morel Ultimo subwoofer

not an over the top system, but it will still cost a pretty penny. but the results would be amazing. but you may like an entirely different sound than me!

Welcome to CCA. The possibilities are endless...

Budget, what your looking to accomplish, (REALLY, nice car by the way), Pioneer still makes good HU, so does Kenwood. Processors, there are several good names, as for speakers and amps... there are SO MANY depending on what your goals are.

We're going to need a little more info. What do you like to listen to? What level of "loud"? Are you usually "heavy" on the volume ****? etc.

I'm all SQ.

My budget is in the air since I have no idea what prices are like, but I'm looking for a mid-level system, although, I don't mind spending more on good speakers and amps if I can hear the difference.

In that case, I'd look into HAT (Hybrid Audio Tech.) for speakers. Sound Solution (click) has your hookup. Also, Hertz, Morel, Focal, are a few good names.

Amps as already mentioned Audison, Hertz and JL Audio make good SQ amps.

HU: Pioneer, Kenwood, a few others...

Digital processors: Audison, AudioControl, Rockford, JL, a few others..

Best advice I can give is demo, and listen to anything you can before making decisions. Also keep in mind that what sounds decent on a display wall might not sound the same in your vehicle.

Good luck and please keep us updated.

A good integration unit to keep the factory head unit is the place to start. After that it is easy to choose amplification and speakers. I would short list Morel for speakers right away. If you want to keep the install to a rather simple approach, then it makes sense to purchase speakers that come with a good passive crossover. Nothing wrong with going to a full active system and using a line of speakers like Morel or Hybrid, however, the $ to put towards install, another dedicated amplifier and wiring and space might not be in your best interest.

If you are after a highly predictable and respectable outcome, keep it simple. I can point you in the right direction and deliver to you a system that will indeed meet your goals. Thngs have changed somewhat since the 90's for sure, in other ways they have stayed the same. For those of us that were in the industry then and still are now, it is easy to look at products and know what is going to deliver for the application and what will not.

Need more info, drop me a PM or msn me to forbidden at telus dot net.

Thanks guys.
The HAT reviews look really good, I'll definitly have to go have a demo.
I'll need to find a local shop that carries all this stuff first I guess.

So I've pretty much decided to go with the HAT Clarus 6.5 components, ARC SE4200 and ARC SE2300 amps and the Morel Ultimo12 sub.
The HAT and ARC I will use Sound Solution but I don't know where to go for the Morel.
Also, will the 3Sixty.2 be a good choice for DSP? or is the JBL MS-8? do I even need anything?

Thats gonna be a nice system. Can't go wrong with HAT and Arc. As far as the Morel sub, send MR2NR (above) a PM. I'm sure he can get it, if he doesn't already have one in stock.

Edit: hahaha, apparently Rob types faster than I... lol
