Don & Mike I think the show you held was pretty good. You could have girls walking around in bikinis, wet t-shirt contest, free give aways but that only means you'll get people there, not competitors.
I think Yuli is right. It's not a matter of improving, it's a matter of getting competitors to shows. I went to 24 of the 26 cspl event last year and it was the same faces. And it was the same faces at your show as it was at any of Richard's db drag/cspl shows. What made me keep going to the cspl show was the points. I had a goal to win. Maybe if you explained at the beginning of the shows for the people who don't know that you accumulate points for worlds you might have people coming back.
Yes Richard may have held a crazy number of shows last year but they weren't db drag. I think you guys are on the right path to getting together with the other organizers and planning your shows together. This gives more promotion opportunities.
I agree trophies kinda suck. They take up room and unless you gloat to your buddies on a regular basis I don't see the point. The same with gear. The people coming to your shows already have probably above average/competition grade equipment and don't need entry level stuff "given" to them (I'm still trying to get rid of stuff I won last year).
I know I'm just a noob, and probably not worth listening too, but I just wanted to voice my opinion.

Maybe not a full system install but a draw for some kind of install (deadening, big3, LCD...) so people can watch them while they do it and learn... This could be good advertising for the vendor.
Frank... I think you need to "smartin up"....
RW does a great job at putting on shows, I can't deny that, but to say he should be the only one to put them on is ridiculous.
Further to that - he did not put them on ALL over Ontario. He did nothing east of the GTA as far as I know. (although there were plans for 1 show)
If a promoter really wants to make a splash then they really DO need to out a bit more.
Look at Bill & Erie. They've come from Buffalo up to Ottawa or even down to New Hampshire. They don't just stick in Western NY.
I'm not going to get on my "you guys never leave the GTA" rant again so I'll just stop there and agree with Yuli.
If you want competing to work then competitors need to make it happen by doing a bit of driving. It's useless to ONLY go to shows in the GTA because then you'll lose competitors all over the province... and, whether you like it or not, it WILL affect shows in the GTA.

They don't want to waste cash on show (but if you are part of a show open the doors to the people and pay your promotors) Plus im not trying to put you down just think of all work for what no one will go
you will come on hear and whine about the turn out
only 20 people came we need more but thats all their is
only 20 people doing it you can't more their is no more
back in the day we whined we could only get 40 poeple on a week nite and car audio was rocking SORRY!!
You're kidding, really? Oh and they do this in New York for the same reason, kicks and bragging rights. Maybe if Canada was a little more like these places more people would show up...just a thought...go Tim Hortons and poutine!
