Aftermarket alarm with OEM Alarm and Remote
Hi All,
I am new to the forum but have been around during the Wayne Harris and Bob Clark days. In fact, I still have my yet installed EPX 2 sitting in the closet. So after many years away, I am getting back into it a little more.
Currently I drive a 370Z Roadster with the Blose stereo. Even though the sound is pretty poor, I've learned to live with it for now. Come summer, I will be pulling out the gears with the intention to do a stealth build. Given the car is a nice target for thieves, security is a major concern in particularly being a soft top, which leads to the question for the experts out there.
Currently, the car is "protected" by the OEM system and entry can be gained using the proximity key remote or door lock button on the handle. As OEM system goes, it is very basic with no shock or Radar. I have an old Alpine 8040 unit from the days which still works flawlessly. The unit is equiped with Radar which is ideal for my ride. I do not want to carry multiple remotes so it would be ideal to have the OEM remote to operate both alarms as the OEM remote is required for the car to start (push start). Additionally, the OEM remote will be used to integrate the SmartTOP module. All said, the OEM is required.
I have thought this through and was thinking about using the passive arm function on the 8040 to arm via the door lock through latching relays. To disarm, power would be cut via the relays to the 8040 thus "disarm" the 8040. Would this work? I remembered that some alarms would trigger when power is reconnected. Obviously if this is the case, then it would render the set up useless. Any ideas?

Cutting power to the 8040 is not a good idea. If you are stuck using the factory fob and want to use the 8040 then you'll have to control it passively.
You could add an aftermarket radar sensor (and shock sensor for that matter) to the factory alarm. They're not as good as the one in the 8040 (which is all it was good for really) but can provide at least modest top-down protection.
