This was quoted off a thread in ott.motorcycles
"Whenever I installed a radio, I always used the rear strap that attaches to the rear of the radio and some interior body panel.
I then soldered a bunch of X-Acto blades to the rear strap in a random order (pointing in every which direction). Damn sharp and lethal.
Since the car was never taken to a shop, having someone else work on it and accidentally getting injured was never a problem.

Not really though...
There's only one thing worse than having your car broken into, and incurring all that damage...
And that's having your car broken into, AND stained with blood into the carpet and upholstery, AND getting successfully sued (it's NOT hard to find case-law, from big suits) for thousands of dollars on top of that by the very thief who broke into your car.
(also why I'm not a fan of pager alarms...) That's what insurance is for... plan your install properly (insurance companies don't count "box in trunk" installs as a permanent component of the vehicle), do a stealth install (at least the interior) and behave in a stealth manner (don't pull into the mall parking lot at 140+dB), and install a standard alarm that will at least discourage the thief looking for an easy hit.
It's true that "if the thief wants to hit YOUR car specifically, he will"...
But... what have YOU done that caused that thief to put his crosshairs on your vehicle to begin with?
THAT is what the problem was.. not a lack of security.

Anybody who thinks this is funny has OBVIOUSLY never had someone bring them, or a co-worker a car with razorblades behind the deck to work on, or had to hold back a fellow installer from strangling a kid in the middle of the showroom, while getting covered in your friends blood. Not that its ever happened to me.

That's stupid, I'd want to kill him, but he'd easily sue and win, because your breaking a bigger law then the theif.
Please elaborate on what is so bad about paging alarms? Do I not want to know if my system needs help from me????

I just don't like pager alarms for that very reason...
If your alarm is going off, what are you going to do?
What are you going to do if it goes off, and you are in the middle of a meeting, or interview?
What are you going to do if you are at the very other end of the mall? In a changing room?
All that will result in is frustration, and misery starting sooner, rather than later.
More misery is worse than less misery, correct?
But let's say that somehow, you are located so closely by, that you can get to your car in just a couple minutes.
What are you going to do?
Confront the thief?
The damage has been done...
Repairing can be done by insurance.
Confronting the thief can result in lawsuit.
Again, more misery is worse than less misery.
Do you think that thieves haven't thought through the "what if the owner gets to the car?" scenario?
How bad would it be if the thief cut themselves, or threw themselves at your car, denting it and hurting themselves, later claiming to the police that you did it to them?
Who's story in that situation do you think would be more believable?
"Officer, he caught me in his car, and he was so angry, I thought he was going to kill me... he threw me into the car, and started kicking me.."
or
"Officer, he threw himself into the car and hurt himself, I swear. No, I don't know why..."
Definitely best to avoid confrontation.

well I rather get to the theif while my H\U is still there and he really wouldnt be able to do much else, and besides you get it in the *** if you file that with you insurance broker...
So I rather have the pager alarm, be Super-Man when it goes off scare the **** out of the thief, maybe give him\her a shot in the mouth depending on what damage has been done and then go on with my day and fix\replace what needs to be done...
oh and if you are in a meeting\interview you just excuse your self...
