Remote start install?

How hard is it to install one of these? People like FS and 2001 are charging ridiculous prices for labor. I have installed dozens of complete systems (decks, comps, subs, amps etc.). I was comptemplating retailers only for the install warrenty, so I wouldnt have to deal with it later.

My car is a 97 SL2, i dont need to bypass anything, it already has the actuators for the doors and trunk.

So how hard would it really be to install?

u could do it if u have a good soldering iron, a multi meter, sharp exacto blade, knowledge of how to create relay packs for actuators, a staub tech account or similar site to let u know which wires are which, ect ect...future shop charges a vary very fair install charge on rs...its 150 for a remote start/ alarm combo which equalls u paying for 3 hours labour...more often then not it ends up being longer, so not only do u have install warranty but you have capped labour unless prior arrangments were made in regards to bypass mudules ect...

Install labour for alarms/starters are actually one area that I think shops are quite low on. IMO on a newer car it's absolutely worth the price as it's too easy to screw up, and potentially very expensive if you do.

on the flip side of that with the new cars it can be an installers dream like a newer escalade with a BCM...remove a pannel and boom most every wire is staring u in face... u can get print outs of exact placements of the wires as well

Well it isit hard but just time consumeing, being under the dash for like 1 hour or so.PLus you need a paper saying now in canada you can install remorte starts.

O damn i wish we could just pee in cups like the state guys do

plus you need 2500 hours to go and write this

Now your saturn has passlock 1 so you will need a bypass module.

but that car is pretty easy

Just one of everything

1,12v
1,starter wire
1,ign
1,acc

plus for the door locks they are (+) if you have factory keyless

but the way i look at it,is if your already doing all that then just install a 2 way system.

probly 1 hour worth more of work

and the r

Pay a pro to do it.....do not do it yourself. It will cost you less in the long run.

little more labour intensive then what u just mentioned there...as an industry member id highly recommend u getting it installed by a pro, trouble shooting and learning by mistake is a lot easier when ur working with a fused line from an amplifier that may ground out, or crossing ur audio wires...dont mess arround unless u know what ur doing and have the right tools etc...

Question Help needed to install the remote starter for my 2002 PT Cruiser Limited...

Hi,

I've great passion in doing the things myself rather than giving it out by spending whole lots of money. By profession I'm a Physiotherapist but my passion is technology and electronics. I usually do little things like changing my vehicle engine oil, ATF, did my video deck installation, iPhone unlocking, jailbreaking and software update etc.,

I recently purchased a used [B]2002 Chrysler PT Cruiser Limited for my wife in a good deal ($2500) but it doesn't have remote starter. I live in a place called Red Deer, Alberta, Canada and where we need the remote starter for to face this winter. I inquired in installation outlets but they are demanding awful prices. I thought why I can't do myself and started doing research on this. I got Code Alarm CA6151 remoter starter kit with programmed idataLink ADS-DL-CH6 Bypass module. For both of these I've installation guide. I also got other necessary tools for installation. However I haven't started the installation still because I want have sound knowledge before I start this project. All I want to request you to explain me from the scratch for installation procedure (if you have pictures of installation that would be much appreciated). If u need any further information I'm more than happy to assist you.

Thanks in advance.

Regards,

Pubby.

And this information that you seek is also why the installation prices are so horrible...... everyone wants stuff for free. How's about I come to see you for some free physiotherapy advice so my wife can take care of me without coming to see and pay for the services that you charge so much for? Same thing is it not? The installers have the proper tools for the job, the have the technical support for the job, they have the know how to do the job and if they make a mistake on the job, it is rectified at their cost, not yours.

I am sure you do not work for the lowest price, why is it that you expect others to. If you do not understand how to do the install (which you have stated you don't), then how on earth can you make a justified and informed decision as to what it will cost or not? I commend you on the wanting to try it yourself and some people can indeed do it, a remote starter though is definitely not something that you want to experiment with (especially on the wife's car). Go to Visions, find Shaughn Murley and tell him I sent you in to see him. I can tell you this, it will cost far more to take apart what you have done if you fail and damage something and then do the job right vs. having a professional job done in the first place.
