If Joe Member hears about a show and would like to give people the heads up then they would post it on the Calendar or ask a mod to do it. If they wanted to accompany that with a 'Hey I posted a show on "Date" on the Calendar' post then I would consider that reasonable.
If Joe Member hears they might be a show but is not sure, I would think it reasonable that a "Hey is there a show at the Boom-o-Plex on "Date"?" is a reasonable post. Then, if indeed the show details were made known, the show would get listed on the Calendar.
The Calendar is free but a highlighted post advertisement about a show is a pay privilege.

im not dissagreeing with anyone, i know the reasons why this is being done.
the reality of the situation is that calendar simply sucks!! it took me some time to even find the link to it, its so tiny and the only reason i knew to look for it is b/c i read this thread. an average website visitor wont go into the feedback section cause they dont care. they wont figure out to look for a 'calendar'.
this also might not be a good move from a marketing stand point. spring/summer/early fall is the car audio competition season. this board experiances higher traffic inflow durring that season. most of those people just browse the site to see when and where the shows are. they come back say once or twice a week to look for any updates. for years everyone knew where to look to find show info, the simplicity of information acquisition keeps people commin back. im assuming alexa rankin for this site goes up significantly durring that season - which ofcourse gives the site owner more bargaining power in the online ad marketplace.
now that those sections are gone, people who are not frequents on this site wont even assume to look for a 'calendar' b/c for many years forum had dedicated show info sections. a user like that comes back now......looks, sees nothing.......maybe comes back again and again sees nothing......that user is gone. and i could be wrong, but i believe there are same number (if not more) of unregistered 'users' who just look/read than registered ones.
make the calendar more visible, noticable, etc. i want it to be made obvious to me that calendar is where i should look for show info. i dont know if u can track clicks to separate sections of the forum but i bet you that the eastern/western sections would produce a greater ammount of hits than the calendar for 2 reasons; 1 people are used to the shows being posted in those sections, 2 calendar is hard to see/find.
what you can do to promote the event calendar is have it automatically included in everyone's sig or atleast into the moderator sigs. matter of fact i will put the link into my sig, if thats not cool let me know.

what up ya'll,
Ya I just signed up, I was looking around the internet trying to find some shows in Calgary (which there are none??) Took me a bit to figure out the calander thing, and then it made me sign-up just to view it? Not gryping however, this site is pretty good. Wish there was a show in calgary, I haven't seen anyone drop that bass in a while

I never went to the eastern/western forums much when they were up to look for info, but I think the way the calender is setup (as an option from the forum main page) is pretty solid. It definitely makes it easy to see when events are and what event it is.
The one thing that might help out, is at least putting the city/province on the calender as well. I don't visit all the various shows, so maybe others know where a show is by the name, but i find it a pain to click on each calender event to see where it is only to find out none of them are actually in my area.
So instead of just "Gibbys Audio Video - 2006 Jam Zone" it'd be nice to see "Gibbys Audio Video - 2006 Jam Zone - St Catharines, Ontario
Just my thoughts.
