You can ask in your message for an opinion from everyone, but really it's up to the people who own/run the site to decide what they want to do and how they want to do it.

We all know what happens when the advertisers leave. The administrators, or the so-called owners, will no longer have a show to run.
Business owners are nothing more than well paid administrators. In many cases "poorly paid" would be a more accurate description.
The problem with the current banner advertising is that it's static. It's always the same 4 or 5 advertisers, with the same old product.
I've only been to those sites a couple of times. WHY? Because they never change. The advertisers never change. No change = boredom. People love to see new deals on products.
My proposed section with commercial advertising would be constantly changing. You would see new deals every single day. Instead of 5 advertisers, there would be 100 advertisers. Yes, the cost per ad would be low, but the monthly revenue for this site would be significantly greater due to the sheer number of advertisers willing to pay $5 per ad.
I can understand why you, as an advertiser, might feel threatened by the proposed increase in competition, but I honestly believe that your sales will increase due to the fact that people will actually read your ads.
In the brick-and-mortar world, most stores strategically place themselves close to their competitors. This benefits the entire group of stores because it creates variety for the customer. The only time you should fear your competitors is if you have a vastly inferior product. This is the only time competition works against you. </font>[/QUOTE]Hey, if you're so passionate about it, start your own website??
Hmmm I can't decide which side ofthe fence to jump on here...
While I wouldn't mind letting people know a bit more about what I do, advertising here for me would be fruitless, as is almost any sales to Car audio guys. I run a retail shop, if you want electrical service done, I'm your man. If you need abnormaly sized Optimas (Hondas, or the 800ci rule), I'm your man. But most car audio guys know to go to Costco or Wally World for Optimas, as they are bulk sales, they require no service, as they are hands on guys (such as myself, I'll never pay anyone to install stereo equipment in my vehicles, I enjoy figuring it out for myself). My company website link is tolerated in my siggy, and I have a plethora of battery/charging system in my head which I share here as much as possible. I've had a few sales because of this board/hobby, but that's just because they know who I am, not because I advertised.
Anyway,
No one will leave this board because of this - this board has a monopoly on Canadian audio related boards. There ARE no other good ones, and starting up another one would just be a waste of time, IMHO.
However, I do like the idea of having an extra for sale section just for advertisers. Be neat to see those kind of ads running. But as a business owner myself, I guess I have to stick with the mods on this one, opening a second For Sale section would NOT be good for the boards, or for the $$$ generated by the advertisers.

Anyway,
I've said it once, and I'll say it again. The true owners of any business are the patrons. If the members of this board decide to leave out of sheer frustration with the fact that their needs are no longer being met, then you yourself as an advertiser would no longer benefit in staying here.

It's not here to be a business. It's here to give people with a common interest a place to chat about those interests.

If you're one of those people, then the proposed advertising section would make a great hangout. Business goes hand-in-hand with the interests and needs of the average person. What makes you believe that car audio is the exception? Let's not forget one important thing: If the businesses which create these beloved products were to disappear, our hobby would cease to exist. It's kinda hard making music without speakers, amplifiers, and CD players. Do you still believe that these evil business people have no right meddling in our hobby? It's these same evil business people created our hobby. And you want to do everything possible to not let them advertise on this forum. You love the product, but you just don't like the idea of someone getting rich off of it.

Of course if people don't like my idea, then you're off the hook, and you can go back into your world of same-old same-old.

People don't get to post for free. They are forced to see the banner ads in the upper left corner. Nothing in life is free my friend, not even this forum. So if people are forced to see these ads anyhow, what would be the big stretch in creating a section especially for them. So you like advertisers, but not when they're given their own separate page?

Second point, it is free, there is no requirement to click on the banner ads, or to even look at them, in fact I hadn't even noticed the 2loud4you till this thread (sorry Jordy).
I will go back to reading usefull info on my favorite car audio board that is pretty much free of spam.
