Why the 10 minute edit rule?

More than a few times I have wanted to go back and edit rather than up a thread with a useless post adding one thing I forgot, but either I have my settings wrong or Admind/Mods have set VB this way.

I understand it MIGHT be to stop the weasel practice of going back and deleteing or changing your posts, but VB runs a real time back up (iirc) if something ever had to be proven.

Yes, I know, if I dont like it I know where the door is.

I was just curious.

I don't like this as well ... how my posts are "Locked Forever" ...
There's just a lot of reasons why I don't like it and I don't even say anything incriminating

Have one of the moderators/admins considered this thread? If so, why no response from any of them?

I make a lot of stupid mistakes. And usually don't see them during my first proof read.

Could this be a privilege that is earned? At first you have little time to edit your post. But the longer you're an active and beneficial contributor to the forum, you get longer windows of editing opportunity.

Kinda like not being able to link a URL in your first 5 posts.

Most times that I want to modify posts are for my for sale ads once stuff is sold.
