Also, this is a voting process - which we all know is effectively a popularity contest... again, not a give away as we do it.

Right
Popularity? No.
Quality of install? Yes.

I've seen guys who just joined the forum win SOTM, and they dont have any 'fans'

The better the install, the more pictures you take, the more you interest people in your build, the more people are going to vote for you

I've seen the simplest builds win SOTM, over guys who were spending twice as much on equipment.

As for fitting the criteria, I think it just makes people wanna start a build. There are some that will do a build on there moms car so that they qualify for SOTM.

In my opinion, I think its the greatest idea ever for a contest, especially the fact it happens every month.

Find a shop(s) willing to donate 12 products of reasonable value (ie $400) and we can do the giveaway every month for the next year.

Take a moment and look at how many giveaways have gone on in the past, which shops have donated and how many times I have put up money out of my own pocket. Heck, you can thank your peers with the subscriber tags as they have helped support giveaways that the common forum user has won in the past.

The majority of the shops here on CCA are not willing to provide product for free for giveaways. Heck, that is a common occurance on a few sites I admin on. In their defence, do they need to give anything for a giveaway, they already pay for advertising. Sure, look at how much promotion the shops that do give items get during a giveaway, heck, the shops that do it tell me its worth it to their name or brands they carry.

COTM, SOTM or any of them are generally popularity contests. Of course, I only speak from my personal experience of being a contestant and also running them. SOTM will certainly exclude many more forum users. I was happy with post a pic of your ride / sys to get entered.

Not everyone can have a nice system, not everyone wants a system. I feel that the giveaways should encourage all users to participate and the word. This is why to this date I have been reluctant to exclude regular users and only do the giveaways for subscribers (though I think this is how it will go from now on).

I have never won anything on a forum and I am certainly not a part of any forums or have been a member of one that had giveaways with the exclusion of the ones I admin on myself. Giveaways are rare, people gripe, people are unhappy at who won or how, its another case of you cant please everyone.

If you have the connections to get it done, then we should talk.

I was only trying to post a point to Jordy. I have no complaints to be honest. But he asked about other forums, and so I gave it to him.

Well, there is currently nothing lined up for giveaways. Perhaps another shop will step up, perhaps not.

We shall see what happens.
