2 burnt coils 2 weeks
US Amps 2000xt - we were running 2 - 1 on each 2ohm dvc at 1 ohm.
After trying the 2 - RE SRX' at 2 ohms set with the DMM at 24.1 volts at the subouts on each amp, and being dissapointed with the now not clipping volume
,we put the reconed Frankenwoofer back in, set up things a bit different... less LD , more gain. The matrix doesn't "overload" anymore
Let it pound for a while, listening more closely for any distortion, we didn't hear any. After about 15 minutes, we touched the cone, it was only slightly warm.
So I'm hoping we have the clipping fixed, and this recone will last long enough until I can recone the other

I couldn't find the ratings for that amp (US Amps has improved their web site to the point of un-usability) but I wanted to get the range of input voltage for that amp. I think if you have the gain set to minimum you should be fine (6v max input point) but if you crank the gain not so fine.
I suppose there could be a fault in the amp but that doesn't seem reasonable from your description... best I can tell from reading this is we have an amp that works fine that ISNT being starved for voltage, 2 woofers that work fine untill they burn up.... the only thing I can put together is you like your bass louder than your system can safely deliver... but I dont like that answer. And you were running your amp loaded down but when you smoked and removed the first sub you unloaded the amp...
That leaves me with speculation... if you are running a box with too high a port frequency this could happen, if there are loose power connections to the amp (anywhere in the power supply) this could happen and if done correctly could fool the VM... I dont feel comfortable saying we troubleshot the problem (OR to put it another way; I am not sure you were necessisarilly misusing the sub)

With help from everyone, at least I know a pile more things to try.
and we made it on a 45 min ground pounding trip with the recone.yipeeee.
Using the tips and checking out the system
we decided to stop being cheap(using all maxifuses) and get inline ANL 's with 250 amp fuses. Seems like the maxi's arent the best conecting fuses with big bass..duhh
Add to that we were using 80's instead of 100's
The xt2000d's have 3x30 each
AND we still just guess the fuses size for the Soundstream, there's no fuses
.. we go with 20s(150w of A/B)
Then the dang box
I'll get pictures of the face plate(yeah I thought it looked good
) on the prefab box, a subzone zv212 dual 1.5cuft at 38hz. Its like a huge flat plastic ,air catching, lip!! Overlapping the actual MDF port. Idiots
.
I may need to cut the faceplate and ugly it up.
or can I just add a small mdf strip at an angle from the lip to the MDF?
Could someon explain what happens to the tuning if the port gets bigger(cutting the lip) or just letting it flow over the lip with an angled strip to direct the flow?
So even if we didn't smoke the recone today, we really can't know if we fixed everything until we can recone the other sub and be running everything.
Ohh here's another good one,
Find the problem with my electical...
stock 125 amp HO alt > front stock battery > Kinetik 600 > 5 farad stinger hybrid cap( good for 1000 watts) > 1600 rms watts of sub amps > subs
How about a vote on how to use the Stinger cap?
