4 Channel Help

I need a little info on four channel amps. I have no clue when it comes to them. Now how many preouts do i need on my deck to run a four channel amp, one pair or two, since four channel amps come with two sets of inputs on them. My deck has a subwoofer output (which i am using for my monoblock), an aux input, which i am using for my ipod, and it has a front output. Could i use this front output to run a four channel amp? Or do i have use a Y spliter rca from the front output? Any help would be well appreciated.

some amps will have a switch that says 2chan/4chan which (on mine anyway) means input so you could run the single set of rca's into it and have a 4channel output, if not then i don't see why you couldn't split the rca's to feed all four channels, wont be able to fade front to back however

So if i split the Rca's i wont be able to adjust input 1/2, and 3/4, woulnt that be sending the signal to both sides of the amp?
