alpine 701 connection with optical

alpine 701 connection with optical
I have an Alpine W205 deck and a 701 processor that was connected with AI net cable and the processor was in the trunk so i used very short RCA's from the trunk to the amps sitting in the trunk.
I noticed some engine noise seeping through on my front comps when i listened to chillout on low volumes that seemed to intensify every time i stepped on the accelerator
I decided to upgrade to optical cables specifically to get rid of the engine noise since i don't really care about the other benefit of optical (5.1 surround)
When i got my car back i noticed that switching the optical output on and off made no difference whatsoever in terms of sound quality and my AI net cable is still connected (i'm guessing to carry out commands back and forth between the 205 and the 701)
Needless to stay the engine noise is still there even when i enable the optical output from the deck
Any suggestions on the right way of making a connection using the optical cable ?
Thnx in advance

alternator whine is usually caused by bad grounds. i would check and/or relocate the grounds on your amps and HU. make sure they are bolted securely to bare, paint free metal.
by upgrading to the optical cable you basically ruled out that the noise isn't entering the system through your RCAs. Its up to you whether you keep the optical (it was probably kind of expensive and you can't notice a difference in sound quality.)

^^^^^^ if you noticed no difference in sound quality, see above, the difference should be relatively dramatic.
it's a Fit, that's just the sound of your engine sir.

The final attempt will be done on Friday. if it doesn't clear up by then I'm taking sludge hammer to the audisons or test if I have a bad amp

Not this time. put the L3 right up to my ear there it was.
I still have the direct accessory line in behind my radio could be bleeding through there. Resorted back to the factor harness when the 505 went it!
I'll bet anything it's the B+ under the rcas in the amp rack.
If it doesn't go away I'll just live with it.....apparently alt upgrades usually fix these issues!

I was kidding
Run a ground from the deck back the where the amps are grounded and see if that changes anything.
I doubt it, but it's a cheap and easy thing to check
I'll try to show up Friday and see what we can fix.
sorry for the temporary thread jack
