amp problems?

ok, so i got a new battery, hooked everything up and its all fine now...ran the system for a few mins...but im still having one of the problems that i was having before, and that is taht the amp seems to just power off after a few minutes of play, however, the rest of the system continues to play fine. The only 2 things i can think is that the amp is crap(shouldnt be tho) or that the fuse is blown...its an 80amp fuse and a 120amp amplifier..so it blowing would make sense, however i have no idea how to check this as it is an agu fuse...

If you blow a fuse, the amp will cease to work until the fuse is replaced.

Does the amp go into protect mode (check your manual, its usually an led on the side)?

Does the amp play clean, good sounding music, or is it distorted garbage when it is running?

Does the amp get quite hot right before it shuts down?

amp doesnt go into protect mode(has led, but all that happens is the power led goes off, protect one doesnt go on) however i have 2 12v computer fans hooked up to it for extra cooling and they still run when the amp cuts out, and the amp doesnt overheat or give distorted sound

Im not expert, but when I hooked my amp/subs up in a buddies car, and we wanted to hear the subs pump, eventually the amp would just automatically shut off, and then we would just have trouble. Found out the amp was turning off to protect it self, because it was eventually taking so much out of the system, it wasn't getting the voltage it needed. It then usually came back on a minute or two later, when the voltage sorta balanced out again. I watched a guy that works at a local sound shop around here, with a volt meter watch the volts go from 12 to 10 in about a second worth of bass. Either way, he has the smaller type of car battery, and it's only a 1.6 EL (D16Z) so the alt probably isn't that big either.

hmm, that would make sense, cuz the battery is a decent battery, but i think the alternator isnt too great, so the voltage drop would explain it...i havent actually done the big3 yet so maybe ill do that first

Im not an expert, but I kinda think that may be the problem. I just baught a new battery, like 875 Cranking amps or sometihng like that, and once I get the kickers pounding, the lights dim. It's kinda hard to avoid it unless you go all the way with a good battery, alt, and possibly a cap.

if your fuse is not popping why would you get a new/bigger one? if the fans are attached to the same power wire as the amp its likely not the fuse.

my bet would either be a very shitty ground or your amp is just done.

screwed around with it a bit more today...like i said the amp doesnt even turn on....however it "clicks" like its turning on and the little internal fan spins up for a few seconds...so i was trying to see if i could get it to do anything else...once the fan spun down i touched the 12v fans to the power and ground terminals on the amp, and the amp clikced again, then when i took them off the little fan spun up, but if i put em back on the fan spun down....so ya, im thinking the amp must be pooched.... so ya, lol. if anyone has an amp that does at 1000w+rms at 1ohm gimme a shout eh? i guess im in the market for one
