Another thread about noise

Well I just recently purchased a new, used, amp from a fellow member who was great to deal with, so my problem isnt with him at all. However the amp has some of the worst interefrence I have ever heard. But only with the key in the forward position. With the car off, and the key back I have no noise, but with the key forward and the car still off, I get noise. So Ièm thinking that its a wiring issue, but my alpine that I took out had absolutely no noise. So I dont know. I called a repair shop and they said it was probably the pre amp section of the amp that needed to be replaced, because there was noise on all 4 channels, could be 5 but I cant here any from the subs. Im tending to disagree because it doesnt do it with the key backwards. I have next week off so I plan to rewire the car then. Any input or experience with these things would be great. This is the first time Ive ever had noise in the last 14 years.

sounds like feedback from the daytime running lights, I definitely agree with you that it's not the amp.

What kind of vehicle is it??? Gas or diesel?? I have seen it a few times that the amplifier picks up noise from a diesel lift pump. If it is only giving you noise when in the run position it could very well be something like the daytime running lights.
How seperated are the RCA cables from ANY power source(not just power wire from the battery)

I'm getting distortion when my truck is running. and a little when its just on ACC. I do however have rca wires close to the power wires of my amps and crossover because they are all hidden under a bench seat in the back. could this be my problem and is there insulated wires i could get to stop the problem? If anyone knows please let me know. I have just changed one of the amps with another old amp i had. I'm not sure if it did it before i changed it.

it's unlikely these days that that's the problem, but its a free solution if you can easily try separating the wiring and keep the power from the signal.

Well the one amp, the crossover and wiring are at least 12 years old(more like 16). I just got this beast back on the road. Its a 1986 Nissan 720 pick-up. Or Pimp-Mobile as I like to call it. if you have an idea of what it could be, other than that which has been stated above. I'm all ears. When the truck is on ACC the distortion not as loud. when you turn it up on ACC it sounds great. just when the engine is acutally running is when it more noticable.

could be a gajillian different things, there's a lot of different places to start looking into things, lots of threads on it too, I'd start by eliminating equipment as the possible cause even though I'm pretty sure it's more likely to be something electrical in the car causing it as it only happens in ACC.

Funny thing is on the way home tonight just for giggles I turned my headlights on, and the noise lestened. Also whenever I close my door the noise increases for about 10 seconds then lestenes again. Only goes away when the key is back.
