blowing my sub? =(

I see you're in Winnipeg. The extreme cold doesn't help when breaking in a new sub. The surround, amongst other components of the woofer, will be really stiff when you start up your system. If you push it too hard, too soon, the motor has to work against the woofer's sluggishness, building up heat more quickly.
If you're going to invest that much money into a decent woofer, which the TypeR is, then why not be gentle with it at first. lol Trust me, we all know how difficult it is to NOT play the snot out of a new subwoofer right away. But if you don't want to encounter the same problem, that's what you have to do.

so i just got back from visions and im stuck with my same sub, i told the guys that its starting to stink, like alot. and i told them the amp that i have it to, and the guy was like something about the moisture getting on the coil or something and when i start it up it heats it up and gives off that smell. and it will be fine :S and he then said i have a 1 year warranty so im guessing thats the alpine warranty so if something happend id have to ship it out and be out a sub for a while

Dude who works at Visions, you had better brush up on your info before you pass it on, no offence intended.
The answer to why your sub blew is in the quote above. You overpowered your sub. The only way to blow a sub thermally (meaning to make it smell) is to overpower it with either a clean signal or a clipped signal. The speaker does not care what you send it, it will play it. If you crank the gains, you are going to send too much power into the sub and melt the inner workings of the speakers. No questions about it.
Should Visions replace something that was 100% your fault? Once perhaps but they are not obligated to and neither is Alpine. If Alpine or Visions replaces it, that is great service from the both of them. Eclipse for example, no warranty on blown subs.

Now my RE sub did have a break in smell (and yes it was THAT smell) but I had to put some power to it to get it

According to specs that sub is NOT being over powered! Ok so there is break in period but seriousely a month LOL if my sub wasnt broke in LONG b4 then, I would be pissed LOL. MAXXED out that amp is ONLY rated at the subs max poer, not to mention you see ppl strapping 5k's and 3k's to those subs alot, so that I wouldn't assume would be huge problem. I would not invest money into ANY companies crap if they didnt offer FULL warranty on there gear. I agree with no warranty on ppl being dumb, poorly built boxes, and competing the gear, but daily driver thats a joke! I ran bassworx for over a season of DBDRAG and honestly I blew some gear some to stupidity and some to competing, I was always honest what happened and never had a problem.... so if those companies wont offer warranty dont deal with them again. And I would stay away from dealing with that moron from visions!
