charging above 14.4v

my new alt charges at idle around 14.8 volts as compared to my stock unit that was steady at 14.4. my queston is the difference of voltage damaging to the battey? i have a hawker odyssey and plan to get another in the near future. someone just mentioned to me that this difference might cause the battery to cook. any truth to this?

It could, but I doubt it would happen over a .4v increase. Batteries should be able to handle over 15v...
