well I know that, but there are two connections, and I haven't looked that close but I thought the casing touches the deck when you plug it in. I never really looked at that though, but yeah, hasn't worked, try swapping decks and see what happens. is it every speaker?

I would also say along with trying a different deck, try hooking a speaker to the deck itself and see if maybe the amp has an issue, at least you begin narrowing it down that way

Why are you switching decks? Do you not own a MP3/Ipod/CD/Walkman or a laptop with a 3.5mm jack?

3.5mm jack -> rca cable.

If you were to buy a newer Kenwood deck afew models better it will have 4Vrms tripple pre-outs. You wouldn't have to have you gain on your amp so high, but almost all the way off. Also just try testing a cheap set of RCA's by hooking them up to your deck and throwing them over your set into the amp. If there is no clicking then you need to re-route your rca's under the carpet a different way. I have also seen Kenwoods amps just having problems with them (the older ones).

ok for one NJord i could try the whole MP3 player bit... that would tell me if it's the amp that's the problem, or if it's before the RCA's. so then yes, it would narrow down some. But if there was a wireing problem or not enough grounding somewhere with the deck it wouldn't tell me there.
And for two Sam.hollis, my deck already has 4Volt Tripple pre-outs. and my gain isn't high, it's just over half for the front and about half for the rear. I've already rerouted the RCA's on the other side of the vehicle as the power cable, and that did help. but i still have the clicking. But to try another set of RCA's and see if maybe the RCA's i have now are maybe messed.
AND... the kenwood amp i have is brand new. well... when i bought it, which wasn't long ago.
