But my question goes back to the OP. Why bother with replacing coils when kickers are so cheap to buy new?
And why bother buying blown speakers in the first place?
i got these 2 kicker 12s for 40$ plus 2 new coils 15$ each. im not sure what your version of "cheap" is but im under 100$ for the pair even now with another voice coil.

this time the guy is selling me aluminum former polyester impregnated coils and they should be much stronger than the originals.

i buy the used and broken stuff because right now i have about 6-7000WRMS in my car across 4 subs and 12 mid range speakers all for around 5-600$.

i dont know about re coning, but re coiling is pretty straight forward.

the cones and the surrounds are super durable plastic and rubber and dont usually get any rips or tears in them anyway

The tones is a 40hz sine wave, meaning constant power and no breaks?
If that is right then as jalat said earlier you a smoking the coils with too much heat.
If you were playing for shorter periods I am sure it would take it fine, the way to look at it is music has breaks and variation which gives the woofer time to cool, tones don't. Imaging your revving and engine, you eventually need to let off of your going to overheat it. So it seems your not at the limit of power more the thermal handling over time, if you were to do burps like the spl guys do you could probably throw more at it.
Bingo, those subs should take it on music all day every day with no problems. Right now I have 2 Visonik XS cargo specials 400 wrms each running off of 2000rms amp. Gain is around 3/4 up. I have been pounding on these every day for almost 2 months now with no problems whatsoever. Now when I was competing and doing a 30 second run with Lil Shawty by Gorilla Zoe which is basically just a steady bass tone by the end of it I had one of them smoking pretty good. BUT it still works to this day and pounds as well as it did before. I will never again badmouth Visoniks subs. LOL
